Students at Danvers High School have been banned from using the word "meep," a word commonly used by Muppet Show character Beaker.

Principal Thomas Murray banned the word after school officials learned of a student plan brewing on Facebook to stage a major disruption on school grounds using the "meep," the Salem News reported.

Danvers High parents received an automated call from the principal warning saying if students say or display the word "meep" at school, they could face suspension.

"Meep" has no clear meaning, but it has become a popular word for kids to use when they are at a loss for other words, according to some Web sites. The Urban Dictionary defines meep as another way to say "ouch," or "uh-oh." It can also be a substitute for a swear word.

i find this to be alarming, not only because of the harmlessness of meep, but its close relation to our favorite word, meeple. i am putting the terror alert level to orange. keep your eyes out for anyone trying to silence you, and notify  of any freedom haters

Now that's just silly. If that disruption is as harmless as the word "meep" itself, that's just sad.

Then again, lots of dumb things were banned at my old high school... From skulls of any kind to purely white shirts with nothing on them. The reasons typically having to do with gang activity and "riots".

I've never heard of something so harmless being banned, this reminds me of in Wayside School the principal bans the word "door" from being used and instead makes them all use the word "goozack"
