Beating up your own childhood.

Okay so I've noticed this pattern with myself lately of being able to beat games within a day (or two) that previously took me months, possibly a year, specifically ones I grew up with years ago.

My dad and I played the Genesis/MegaDrive together waaay back and were obsessed with Taz-Mania!, Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure and Sonic (1 and 2). Sonic 2 is still a game I can't beat all the way through, pathetically, BUT over the last summer I played Buster's Hidden Treasure and Taz-Mania both in a row, on my computer no less so I was without a controller...and beat them both. Called up my dad and said "I think I just beat up my own childhood" and explained how I had just conquered both of our fav Sega games in a day.

Then recently, I beat Sonic Adventure 2 (all 3 stories) within a day and beat Banjo-Kazooie (on XBLA) 100% in a total about eight hours the weekend before. At first I thought it was simply that you just get better at video games when you get older, but I know that's not the case for everyone. This happened to any of you guys, recently perhaps?

Super Mario World was the game for me when I was a kid.
Going from day time to night time was awesome back then
I spent moments in the game just flying around with the feather.
I used to flip out (and I still do) when I got the key!
The way it engulfs your character and makes that sound...I couldn't (and still can't) get enough of it
Back then I could never make it past Vanilla Dome though (I was 3 ok)

Super mario world and the sonics used to be hard as nails when i was a kid

Sonic is too cursed for me, I still just can't get 100% on ANY of his games, even the older ones I can't nab all 7 emeralds. Mario World's a cakewalk now though, I'll echo that.

Also Legends in 3 days? Jesus.

ahh yeah the emeralds are still bitches cos of the special stages.

I like to backtrack through my old game collection (mainly the Crash and Spyro titles on the Playstation). Speaking of Banjo-Kazooie on XBLA, why didnt the developers think of updating the visuals!?!

Basically they just made the pre-existing graphics look HD and the talking avatars look smoothed out and less pixelly.
