anyone have a mac?

i was thinking about dual-booting vista and osx on my pc, but i need to know: does osx allow you to listen to your microphone?

in windows xp, you can go to volume control and unmute the microphone, and then all the audio that goes into the microphone comes out of the speakers. In vista you cannot do this, but in windows 7 you cannot. I need to know if you can do this in OS X. Can anyone help me out?

wait, do you mean like, you want to talk into your microphone and hear it come out of the speakers as you talk? I don't think osx has that feature but i can double check :/

wait, i know it's possible to partition your harddrive and run another operating system on it, but wouldn't your pc have issues running osx? aren't there problems with drivers?

I have used one, and those things are annoying. You cant upgrade them or trick'em out, you cant play games on it, and YOU CANT RIGHT CLICK ><.

The Macintosh OS is good, but the actual Mac PC is annoying. I wouldnt mind dual booting it on my PC. If only Apply sold hard copies of it (that arent for other Macs).

Windows 7 is currently in beta, so that could change. Not sure why you cant do that in Vista.

the first thing I did when I got my mac was set up mouse configurations so that, when you click the right side of the mouse, it works as a right click
and it never gave me any problems

i was going to buy osx and just use a bootloader to install it. i hear it works pretty well with my hardware.

i would really appreciate it if someone could answer my question, because i'm pretty good at computers

yes, that is exactly what i am asking. if you could double check i would appreciate it because i really need that feature for my main computer

There's a listen tab in Windows 7 beta, and i doubt they would take it out for no reason. The listen tab on recording devices is not in Vista, because they switched the volume controls from the traditional list of components to a list of running applications and a choice of all connected output devices, and didn't think to make it possible to listen to your microphone.

so you're going to buy it and run a hack to allow you to install it on your pc.. why? osx is designed to work with apple hardware. i mean it may run just fine but are you only wanting to do it because you have windows 7 and you can't hear your mic in your speakers anymore? why not request the feature.

No, I currently have windows 7 and I can hear my mic in my speakers, but it has a lot of bugs that only I seem to be experiencing, that I did not experience in vista x64. I want to switch to dual-booting vista and osx for the unix environment + adobe products (as opposed to linux) + xcode with iphone sdk. The reason why I want to know if you can hear the mic through the speakers is because this is an extremely important feature to me, with my pc being connected to my 24 inch monitor, which is the biggest screen in my room. I need the mic-output so i can continue using my ps3 and 360 on my monitor with my pc for sound output.

i dunno what iphone sdk is but it was pretty silly of you to upgrade to 7 while it was still in beta if you needed the computer for work-related purposes

it's working out pretty well so far.

sdk means source development kit. what that means is its the libraries used to program and compile for the iphone.

I use my wacom mouse instead of the shitty apple mouse. rightclick works fine.

the default apple mouse is just a piece of shit with only one button.
