So at the suggestion of a few people I figured I might as well give this section a shot and see what I get in return. Over the past couple months I've been working on and off on a couple of big character spreads. The first one, which I completed a while back but didn't submit until today, is representant of my 20th birthday. I chose a good deal of characters from a few different series of mine that people were familiar with online (in varying capacities) and smacked 'em all together. It's loosely based on the Megaman 20th Anniversary poster.

The second, is a poster of literally EVERY single character from the sprite series I worked on for about two years. I just started drawing in Anatomy class after I had finished the assignment and suddenly I started making this giant spread.

So the birthday poster I had been planning for a while, I guess as like a "present to myself"? Something like that? Whatev, it was fun. The TTA one was completely out of nowhere but I couldn't stop working on it once I got to the inking stage. If anything I thought they could make good portfolio pieces, but I figured some second opinions would be needed. I didn't get a whole lotta critique aside from a few core friends, so any feedback would be appreciated.

Happy New Years Eve.

I think I already told you a while ago that I don't like the soft shading on the second picture. I have no idea how good you are at cell shading but if you're not really bad at it you should try it out some time. (Might be a little opinionated because I don't like soft shading in general, I prefer cell shading). The light effect on the black dragon dinosaur godzilla thing or what it is (top left) is nice.

On the first one, the mixture between soft shading and cell shading looks nice on some characters, on others, those that are too small for example, it doesn't really fit in my opinion.

I can't really say much about that stuff though. I don't know a lot about anatomy and whatnot so I will let rtil, cdm or f0d take care of that stuff.

Oh that's right, I think it's in the description for the TTA one, but I used soft shading for that one since I was staying consistant with the "style" of coloring for all of the TTA artwork I've done, not to mention it was easier for that many amounts of characters.

Nowadays I actually much more prefer cel shading, I've been using it for all of the GameSavers artwork, which you can find here: http://kirbopher15.deviantart.com/gallery/#Game-Savers

yeah the cel-shaded characters look better. i guess my biggest problem with these pictures is how cluttered they are. you have dozens of characters, a plethora of really bright colors, and various weird backgrounds all in one picture. it's too much.

in your "massively multiplayer epic" piece, part of the picture has a forest background, another part has a glowing grid background of some sort, another part is black and white, another part looks like fire, there's pink stripes, blue stripes, etc. it's really overwhelming to look at and to take it all in. you have so many characters, and so many bright eye-catching colors in one place, it's just one giant clusterfuck...on acid.  i suggest that you try and do pictures emphasizing one highly-detailed character, instead of giant pictures with a billion relatively- simple characters. and don't get me wrong, i love bright colors, but if you're going to use them, make your pictures more organized. this is kinda chaotic

i think the "Twenty" pic came out much better. i like the areas where you did cel-shading

oh, and in your "don monkeysuit" pic, i thought it said "It's the LAWL" on the chalkboard at first. lmao

rtil

do you dodge and burn kirboppy?

Kirbopher

I did for a time, whereafter I switched to cels, but I use it occasionally for certain areas. Otherwise I just use the brush for soft shading.

don't dooo itttttttttt
also i really don't think soft shading fits your style at least not at that level of refinement
