I actually like the first picture more than the second one because I did everything by hand while the second relies on the photoshop tricks.

The first one looks way better, man. The colors in the background, the light, it all looks better than these photoshop effects you tried in the second image =p
And the character you drew in the second one doesn't look good to me, mainly because of her eyes and the bevel & emboss thing.

That first picture is great, tho.

i love the shading on the hill and the tree in the first one. it looks really good. i love the scenery in the second pic, but the girl looks really weird. its her eyes, and her left arm/hand. they just look a little freaky idk.
