i think it's heading in a good direction, but everything is moving so fast. i think it needs to be slowed down a lot. right now it feels very twitchy because of how quick he moves.

I uploaded the 60fps test version by mistake.  I just uploaded the correct 30 fps version, let me know if the pace is better for you.

Hey, I'm back to talk about yet another game project I'm working on.  I programmed this thing, so I would appreciate some feedback on the code side of things, especially player controls.  Thanks!

Controls:
Arrow Keys: Move
Jump: Space
Attack: A
Climb/Hang: Hold A

(There's a few animation glitches, like the player's head vanishes when you climb up/down a wall)

(Remember to click on the screen once it finishes loading then move your mouse off of the screen for controls to work).

the lack of a preloader i think is a problem. it would be easy to slap one on in the future.

but when i press play to start on the menu, nothing happens. i'm going to assume it's a problem with newgrounds. but basically i can't play the game.

I don't think I have the source to the entire project. I emailed the group requesting to make a preloader. I was against it at first because it's past the deadline, but I guess its not that big of a deal.

Made in 48 hours for the Global Game Jam. Created by me and the rest of the M.A.D.E. gang.

Introspection

Wait a little bit for it to load (3MB), we didn't get the chance to do a preloader >_>

i found this infuriatingly difficult especially for a first level, the mecha-raptor thing that shoots the tracking beams at you is almost impossible to dodge given the limited amount of space you can move around in. it's a solid engine, though.

I think if I decrease the lifespan of those beams would help with that problem.  That isn't the real level 1 either, it was just meant to show off the enemies, which the other two show off bosses.

the focus one is what i would be referring to, runs perfectly aside from that.

Ah that's a relief.

In future versions, whenever the game loses focus, the game will automatically pause.

positive- game looks smooth and clean, good customization, nice tunes

negative- control issues (character will occasionally lock up and be unable to move) low-fi sound effects, wildly inconsistent difficulty that comes from randomization in patterns

you should also make it so that you can shoot repeatedly, rather than individually (especially for a weapon like the assault rifle)

Thanks for the feedback.

I never got the lock up before, however sometimes flash loses "Focus" and you can't do anything unless you click the screen again. I'm working on a fix for that.  If that's not the problem, can you elaborate on the lock up?  Is the game running at 60FPS for you?

There's one gun where you can hold the mouse down, I think you're right that the assault rifle should be hold to shoot as well.

No idea where the artist got the sound effects from.  I believe we need more sound effects as well.

Since I'm going to be in between jobs for a month or two, I figure I'd collaborate with people and make some small games.

Here's the first. I made a demo that shows off the core engine and I think I could have this game done and published in a week or two.  There's going to be a lot more enemies and features and whatever when this is done.

Let me know what you think, positives and negatives.  Thanks.

Hey all.

I didn't know people were still interested in making more of these.  If we choose a new subject and people participate this time, we can have a new collection.

BRAINSTORM!

We'll be showcasing our game at 8:00 PM PST tonight.

Here's the scoop.

Apparently there's something wrong with IGN's wifi and it doesn't allow anyone to broadcast their live stream.

I wanted a live stream right at our table showing us making the game.

Here's a pic of our work station.

I'll still post the game once it's done, but we want to work on it even after the jam is over.

if you give me a link to the stream, i can put it in the stream list - when a stream in the list goes live, people browsing the site are asked if they want to watch it.

Thanks, I'll post the link once I know what it is.  I won't know until Friday afternoon.

sounds cool! I'll check it out if i remember and am free during it.

So me and a group of friends will be in a 48 hour game jam (Molyjam) starting Friday night. It takes place at IGN Headquarters!

From what I've been told, we'll be shown on a livestream (don't know when, there are other teams) while we try to slap together a game in 48 hours. We'll be showcasing our games Sunday night then post it sometime next week. So if you're interested stop on by sometime.

If that isn't motivating enough for you to come check it out, we'll be getting pretty crazy I WILL be getting pissed off.

I'll post a link to the jam once it's live.
