The tournament and brackets will start once we have a decent number of sign-ups or in by next week
RulesThe rules are set up to make games go as quickly as possible.
- Default game settings unless both players agree on different rules are as follows:
- Map size: Duel
- Map type: Pangea or Pangea Plus (if possible), Continents or Continents Plus (if possible), Random, Shuffle or Fractal
- Game Speed: Quick
- Game Era: Ancient
- World Age: 4 billion
- Difficulty Level: King
- Temperature: Temperate
- Rainfall: Normal
- Sea Level: Medium
- Resources: Standard
- Barbarians: on
- Victory Types: Domination, Science, Diplomacy, and Cultural
- Quick Combat & Quick Movement ON
- Turn Mode: Hybrid
- Turn Timer: Enabled, no longer than 120 secs
- If necessary, games can be saved and resumed at a later date. However, if the opponent who needs to play later cannot resume the game more than a week after pausing, their game will be forfeit and the other player will advance.
- No AI's can be in the game (besides city-states)

in a perfect world i'd want it to be BNW only, but i know for a fact not everyone has it. whoever you're playing with i guess will determine the lowest expansion. i don't mind g&k, but vanilla is pretty bad..
if you do have vanilla, let us know and maybe some of us can chip in to get you g&k at the very least. i'd be willing to help with that.

yeah i'm having a hard time wanting a forum troll in this. afaic he only comes here to spam and i have to delete most of his posts. if he doesn't want to participate in the community then he isn't welcome participating in this tournament.
Oh god I don't think I'm ready for this tournament, just ran a test game against the AI. Been playing on Marathon for so long...also I don't think I've ever beaten King difficulty, I get annoyed at the AI having a purely stats based advantage. Always stuck behind them by like ~200 score.

the difficulty in this tournament will only serve one purpose - your starting happiness. i don't think the city states will pose much of a threat to you as they will be the only AI you'll have to deal with in the game (unless you count barbarians)

alright that's fine. BNW imo is worth its current price, but i think most people would rather wait for a sale.
if we can get 4 more people we can get a decent bracket without any BYEs, otherwise this is fine as it is. if you know anyone who plays civ and would be interested let them know about this tournament

Hate to be a bum, but I think being in a civ tournament (even if I get knocked out in the first game) would get in the way of a busy month or so I have, due to school, job and other various things. Good luck to the competitors, sorry for the uneven number.

i never played on a duel map before, so I went with Korea, assuming me and crackers wouldn't spawn in fucking yelling distance from another. So I basically went no-where cause Korea isn't much of an early game civ while crackers wooped my asshole.

soup kohai vs crackers senpai for strange semifinal hoho
for anyone wondering it was Babylon vs Celts. my strategy was going to be to use early faith for war based pantheons and religious bonuses, and their Pictish Warriors for an early rush. unfortunately a huge unforeseen deficit stopped me from doing this and so i went into the long haul already behind because of Babylon's strong science. we went to war a few times and nothing really happened, but the game was won through Babylon having just enough votes to win a diplomatic victory through the united nations
beat soup in a ridiculously close game
managed a comeback from my back against the walls (of babylon) with a Mandekalu cavalry rush. couldve gone either way mid game but luckily i managed to prevent a key city from being taken

Finishing this game has been slow going, because of the 16 hour time difference and the fact that apparently Steam Cloud does not sync saves between Mac and PC for whatever reason. Gonna try to finish it in the next session, but due to the layout of our pangea I have a feeling this will be an incredibly long game:

out of curiosity, when is greeenkitten playing civ? we've been at this point for weeks
It's really hard because of the 16 hour time difference. I just started Spring Break so I'll play from midnight to 6am if I have to. If not I might just end up surrendering if the tourney needs to move along, I'm just reluctant because I know this match is going to be intense with that choke point the way it is.
with the quick pace of the turns and speed of the game you should be able to finish it in a night or two , good luck
We're what, a good 16 hours or so into the game, its taking a while.
i'm shocked it's taking that long. what turn are you on?
16 hours is exaggerating, it's probably closer to 10. We're on turn 160. 2-minute turn timers are on but there's a bit of lag/locking up, and we've been at war since nearly the beginning so with hybrid turns it basically takes twice as long to get through one.
oooh. yeah hybrid war turns does drag things out. there is a mode in war where everyone takes their turns at the same time, but it's an "early bird gets the worm" kind of gameplay style where whoever has the fastest fingers gets the upper hand in battle since they make the first moves.
me and soup just ended up declaring peace during our game to speed things up, lmao, if only it was that easy in real life. what rtil said is right though, simultaneous turns is really stupid (and notoriously glitchy)

It was looking like it would be quite a while before anything was decided. Greenkitten had a stronger economy/production going because of a mistake I made early game, but my choke point + great wall meant that I was untouchable at least until he discovered dynamite, and considering I was actually outputting more science than him, I think I had a decent chance at turtling up and winning late game.
