it seems like the response from the fans for their april fools toonami comeback have piqued their interest. this hash tag has been retweeted at least a hundred times every goddamn minute, steven blum is more than excited to do it, and they obviously have the resources to do it.
i think it would be a huge mistake for them at this point not to bring toonami back after the response from fans. obviously toonami had a huge impact on our generation and it has the chance to do it again , and boost ratings of course. a healthy mix of new anime and action cartoons combined with the ones we grew up with, complete with tom 3.0 on a revamped absolution, combined with adult swim and maybe even a new midnight run? i think it would be amazing.
yes
I certainly hope for its return, but fear for its success if it does. I know a lot of people are harboring for it, but I doubt even half of them will actively watch it.
Well they just need to be wise about their air times if they do, and not make it all that often, with enough gaps in time to get people excited for the next showing. I would say once a week max, maybe even 1-2 times a month. Of course I just say this because I really don't want to see it fail miserably. Not that we even know for sure they'll do it...
All of my YES.

chances are that's probably what they'd do anyway, once a week.
but if you show it less than that, it would take way too long to complete a show run. at a rate of once a week, you get one episode a week of most shows, so a typical show takes as many weeks as it has episodes to finish, which can sometimes be extremely long. dbz for example would take over 4 years.
cipher's got a point. Sure they might bring it back, but Toonami fans need to seriously commit to it and watch, especially if they have a Nielsen box. Watch the damn thing and keep supporting it.
I don't want the block to become an zombified abomination like "The 90's Are All That". You know, bare minimum effort, only five shows aired endlessly (with an occasional special U pick or something every 2-3 months). Also doing stuff like only airing three seasons of a show and cutting out huge parts of the show for some reasons (AKA Musical Guests).
As you can see, I have a huge beef with that horrible, horrible block.
the 1860s are all that (woo lincoln wooo) *gay alarm sounds in the precinct*

Yeah you've got a point there, 1-2 times a month would mean it would take a lifetime to go through all of DBZ or whatever long shows they would be.. showing. Speaking of such, I wonder what they would show - there's no way it would be 100% of the same line up it used to have, they'll probably splice in some of the anime and things already running / have ran in the past [on adult swim].
they will show things that bring in ratings first like dbz and bleach, and as the night goes on more varied stuff.
Sounds all too good to be true. If this ever did happen, I'd have to start buying cable again.
i hope they come back showing old and new material. since it would be showing late at night, we could rule out they would show sailor moon and cardcaptors :I
They never had toonami here, they just played anime whenever. I don't know why Americans care so much for it, do they not play anime on cartoon network now?

whether or not you like steve blum's voice acting or think he's overused, toonami's tom was a really charming character that fans (and seemingly everyone here) liked, especially that particular design. i don't know what you're on about with him being "poorly animated", do you think he needs to be a pixar film to be in 10 second pre-and-post commercial bumps? and in general, i think a lot of the anime from that point is better than the anime currently on adult swim, particularly cyborg 009, yu yu hakusho, rurouni kenshin and a handful of others in comparison to recently aired ones on adult swim like bleach and kekkaishi.
i'm assuming you're trolling (wow!!!!!!! amazing!!!!!!!), but if you're not, that's my explanation on why toonami is good
the only anime cartoon network played after toonami was yu-gi-oh and pokemon
so yeah. we need anime
here's the way i see it - toonami introduced anime to our generation. if toonami never existed, i think i'd be a very different person today, and may have never even gone on to become an animator, have the friends that i have and there's a lot of special memories there. so toonami shaped my life in a big way.
near toonami's end, the segment got butchered and eventually chopped. it was heartbreaking to see it go and anime on CN be reserved to an hour of bakugan and a very late night block on saturday nights with bleach and years of rerunning the same shows.
i dont want to see toonami back just for myself, but for another generation who deserves to see it. not the same toonami i saw, but a new one, with a healthy mix of recent releases and the ones they have licensed for decades, and of course toonami tom as the host who really did make the segment 10 times cooler.

bringing back toonami doesn't and shouldn't entail making a replica of the toonami we grew up with in the 90's. it should be a healthy mix of the old and the new
and please don't try and argue that anything that someone grew up with and still finds enjoyable later in their life is suffering from stunted development. you'll just make yourself look like an idiot , which to your credit you're very good at.

then why even bring it back? it's done, let it go! and it didn't even end THAT long ago if wiki is to be believed (2008).

"anything" is a little vague, isn't it? sure most things people enjoy in childhood and carry on into adulthood are just fine, but for grown men and women to develop a fixation on bad cartoons and toys intended for the young is more than a little troubling and a growing phenomenon. it can be seen everywhere on the internet, just look at otakus, MLP, etc... these people are obviously regressive, strange and ill-equipped for life, and could probably benefit from counseling and medical aid.

because a replica of the 90's toonami would be boring? we've already seen those shows. it would only make sense for the block to have both new and old shows, otherwise the segment isnt going to accomplish what it did 15 years ago. and i never said it ended a long time ago, i don't see what that has to do with anything. but the last era of toonami kind of sucked when they made tom 4.0

your definition of bad is entirely subjective , and a lot of the material aired on toonami was heavily cut, edited and censored and i would not say that the programming was meant exclusively for children. there was death, blood, nudity, sexual themes and serious stories that often involved heavy themes like self-sacrifice and the meaning of life, dealing with mortality, love, etc.
just because something is animated doesn't mean it is aimed at children and that only children are allowed to enjoy it. you may not know this, but all animation is made by adults. the mark of a good animated movie or television program is one that has characters, writing and a story that is timeless and ageless. something you enjoy as a child and an adult, but perhaps for different reasons as you grow older and see things that flew over your head as a kid.
even if it is something childish in nature like spongebob or my little pony, there should be no shame to enjoy something like that as an adult (within reason). it's not like they are hurting anyone by enjoying cartoons, and i think they're helping break a stereotype that it is shameful or wrong for an adult to watch or like cartoons. sure, sometimes people can go overboard with the fanfictions and sexual fantasies or what have you, but
most people are NOT like that. if you don't believe me you spend too much time on the internet.
why do you believe that adults who enjoy cartoons with a younger audience as a fanbase need counseling and therapy? there must be some very deep seated prejudices you stand by to be so deluded and cynical.

This right here. Despite having a lot of the more mature content cut from the shows, they themes a lot of them presented remained intact. Blue Submarine No. 6, Outlaw Star, and more had some pretty mature themes that simply aren't in most kids shows today, and that is why they had a profound impact on the generation that watched them. It isn't just fond memories, these shows have been repeatedly called some of the best animes ever made, and for good reason.

Golly, at least i get a break from this demanding schedule by taking a night out on the town on fridays and saturdays!!! :)

that doesn't surprise me because all of you are legitimate wastes of space and air, and i'm not just saying that to be mean or edgy, i genuinely think that all of you bring nothing of value to the world and have no credibility or use as human beings. sure, g3no puts some memes in his comic, but at least he tries to work on his shit and entertain people while you guys pretend like you have elite tastes and act like your opinions mean anything, and it's totally unjustified. i can understand people who actually have their shit together having an ego and being harsh but jesus christ you guys just have nothing
i know i'm wasting my time rambling to you because i know you're just going to pretend to not be affected and flaunt how little you care (despite the fact that you still post here anyway DUHhURRHHUH) but i am actually legitimately hoping that my posts help you see the error in your ways and potentially inspire you to kill yourselves, since as i stated before, you are actual wastes of natural resources that future generations could enjoy instead.
the onlygood mamebers of the bacfk alelys are cooldrmony, wasim, hlg, bam yasi, all the others are fake wannabes that cant even pwn a noob they are gay. everyrone oesles should get the fuck out and go back to 4chan for a epic win also theres only 4 good tba members bamyasi hlg wasmim coooldrmoney everyone else can suck my dick anigen Bulma is gay just lietting you know your art is gauy also suyck my dick

is 'hashtag' the legit name of the # symbol or is that just some stupid internet thing?
i think "#" is hash, so hashtagging is the method of using the hash symbol to tag things on twitter
it's also called a pound
also, did you know that if you draw a slightly bigger hash/pound on a piece of paper, you can play tic-tac-toe with it?
for more infor check out http://www.hash.com/ (http://www.hash.com/)

I TAKE IT ALL BACK ANIME OWNS FORGIVE ME
Quote from: retrosmash on April 10, 2012 10:27 PM
well u see f riend i often start my days waking up at like 7 in the morning rising with the beautiful sun and having a nutritious breakfast of oatmeal w/ cinnamon and some whole grain waffles (sometimes i just go for the cereal lol but u get the drift!!!! :) ) then i flip on the morning news to see if anything particularly interesting is happening in this big nutty World of ours (did u know rick santorum dropped out of the presidential race today?!?!?? america is free for another day from them Republicans am i right???? :D) and after that i follow the typical morning routine of SSS (shit shower shave dontcha know) and make my way off to school (1:00-7:00 pm monday/wednesday and 10:00-1:00 tuesday/thursday) ready and raring to experience another daily round of intellectual stimulation that will help me receive a fabulous degree in the major of my choice!! then i make my way back home at the given times each day when my last class lets out, and rather than converse with my BackAlleyz brothers and sisters about a rather bully anime i found on a torrenting site while playing starcraft the other day, i spend a few hours filling out job applications and calling back about any potential interviews because i understand that it is important to have at least some kind of work experience under your belt at this age! to finish off the day i will typically take an evening walk on my own or with a friend as the sun sets in a beautiful haze of pink, yellow, and orange that blazes across the sky above us and beyond the horizon. then it's back home to decide what to cook for dinner (no take-out for me! :D) following that, i might curl up with a good book (i just finished up this great chinese story titled Monkey by Wu Cheng'en [translated by Arthur Waley] and am now starting on a book full of anecdotes on the history of saturday night live which is actually quite interesting) or play a game on my good old ps3 for a couple hours (but fuck consoles am i right blood for the PC god!!!!!! pc master race lol :) :) :P jesus i might as well be mocking the lowest depths of reddit right now) until it's finally time to go to bed at around 11 pm (though sometimes i have trouble sleeping and might end up watching something on nat geo/discovery/history/etc. to help out because There's No Such Thing As Too Much Knowledge!!!). i then rise again the next morning and the cycle repeats itself. Golly, at least i get a break from this demanding schedule by taking a night out on the town on fridays and saturdays!!! :)
actually you know what disregard all of that, apparently the fact that i spend a miniscule amount of time in my day fucking with some scrub on this forum indicates that i do not have a life of any sort. carry on!
also (https://thebackalleys.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2Fj5qfb.gif&hash=094ba9613e86da7229f2066d96ec94649bfff69b)in' at this
RIP retrosmash, after 1779 of his hilarious wacky and ironic posts used to cope with the large amounts of anime found in this community, he finally succumbed and went bananas. he may not be with us anymore, but wherever he is (probably newgrounds), we can rest assured that he's making plenty of people laugh with his excellent sense of humor.
and all of those people are lauch
help my brain is trying to chew through my skull
LOL SO MUCH DRAMA
I THINK TOONAMI IS COOL I LIEK DBZ DAT WAS COOL BRING IT BACK LOL
Looking back, even though I loved anime I watched Toonami mostly for Samurai Jack and Batman reruns. Month of Miyazaki was also pretty fucking neato. Looking at the list of anime they aired they had quite the selection. Apparently they aired NGE? I don't remember that.
Having Toonami back would be rad. Toonami introduced me to Daft Punk.
they played music videos and interstella 5555
and gorillaz
well i guess you know that falls under music videos but oh well
yeah they played quite a few different bands iirc
A lot of Electronica.
You guys are all starting to turn into the things you used to make fun of
take er easy
just because you parody something doesn't mean you can't be a part of it. if you can't look in the mirror and laugh at yourself, you don't deserve to be able to laugh at anything. i fully acknowledge that a lot of the things i like are extremely easy to make fun of. i'm not going to try and pretend i have superior tastes to everyone, and anyone who does is full of shit

pretty much this
But you'll become extremely defensive when someone acknowledges it?
acknowledges what
it's more all encompassing but in this case, retro and launch makin fun of the nude Bulma thread and the comic shit or whatever.
The whole thing was like I was watching Unearth owning my ass
let me clear up any misconceptions here, retrosmash's angry shitstorm about the comic and the bulma thread i made a few months ago (fucking lol) didn't offend me at all. and no, i'm not pretending to not be offended. there are plenty of things that could be used to bother me and i'd definitely shut up if any of them were actually brought forward, but seriously, i don't have a single clue why he thought mention or criticism of either of those threads would be any sort of trolling ammo. anyone who pays attention would notice that we're running the comic with a pretty loose hand, and the nude bulma thing is a copypasta i ripped off that've been done plenty of places before with that exact image. why he thought i had an attachment to either of those things is beyond me.
as a further note, if you look back, you'll notice i never responded to anything related to either of those things either. that whole time i was just calling them elitists and making fun of them, and considering the way retrosmash left (spamming gay porn and creating an alt when his account got disabled so he could get the last word), i honestly think he ended up being the one getting offended. otherwise, the only thing i actually responded to directly was gladius's remarks about toonami.
i'm still not really sure what you're getting at cdm
dude bulma is fucking hot id bang tht shit wit my dick if you know what i mean
coming in loud and clear
I lost all interest in this but all I was basically sayin is don't turn into:
"YOU WANNA FUCK WITH ME BITCH IM 14 LIFT 250 POUNDS AND CAN KICK YOUR ASS YOU DON'T FUCK WITH THE BEST I KICK YOUR ASS NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY YOUR 5 YOU HAVE NO LIFE AND CAN'T SAY SHIT YOU KNOW WHY? CUZ YOUR MY BITCH YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT YOU SUCK MY COCK YOU LITTLE WHORE FUCK BAG IT DOESN'T MATTER YOU SUCK MY COCK BITCH YOU LITTLE FUCKSTICK BITCH COMMON YOU WANNA FUCK WITH ME YOUR A DUMBASS YOU LIKE COCK! YOU JUST GOT BITCH SLAPPED HOMOSEXUAL IM SMARTER IN EVERY WAY BECAUSE IM READY FOR COLLEGE AT MY AGE WHICH MEANS YOUR A DUMBASS SO YA KNOW WHAT STFU STFU STFU SUCK MY DICK BITCH UNEARTH JUST OWNED YOUR ASS"
i'm glad i asked because i thought you were talking about something else entirely different
but i don't really see anyone here reacting to something like that, not even close
regardless it doesn't mean much
i kinda feel like most interactions on a forum board are kind of a joke, it's actually talking to someone one on one that matters. yesterday i was just kind of posting in-between getting my ass kicked during rounds of skullgirls. so cdm, maybe it's because we don't talk that you're getting the impression that i'm unearthing or w/e
(also im going on the assumption you were talking about me because i was the only one really talking in this thread yesterday)
You know what i actually forgot about those toonami music video sequences i fucking loved those!
This thread is missing something
wtf they play anime on saturday night adult swi,, enough anime for an american tv chanel THAN K U
