ever since rtil made rmcartoons, tba hasn\\\'t been much of a portfolio anymore for him and hasn\\\'t really had much of a point to it

but from today on tba can have a new purpose:

an internet maternity ward

(and possibly a baby shower celebration/catering company)

Here's what Amalah has to say about Uguu Bean this week.

Your baby:

Has tripled or even quadrupled in size and is now three or four entire millimeters long! Godzilla baby!
Is working on growing a nose, some ears and a mouth.
Is also growing flappy little leg and arm buds.
Has a heartbeat that can be seen on an ultrasound — 100 to 160 beats per minute.

You:

Are maybe moody as hell.
Are getting up in the middle of the night to pee.
Food cravings and/or aversions can be pretty strong at this point. If salad with a prenatal vitamin chaser makes your stomach flip and your esophagus burn, then for God's sake skip the salad and eat something that sounds appealing, be it chicken nuggets or black olives straight out of the can. There's no need to be the Healthy Salad Martyr Pregnant Woman, nobody likes her anyway.

I was going to refrain from commenting on certain recent comments in this thread but seeing as my friends are now being insulted (even as an aside) by impending "extended fuck yous", I feel the need to politely inform everyone that nothing has changed and any attempts at playing possum are to recover a positive appearance on an internet forum.

Please do not tell anyone who cares about the safety and well being of my, (and your, ill remind you) child "fuck you".

If you have any questions regarding my behavior and stance, please forward them to my voicemail.

We saw Teen Titans Wizarding Action Movie pt 2 where a woman cried and I tripped a man who kept coming in front of me and scrib with a banana peel (true),, had free (conned) smoothies in which scrib and I had to share a banana because fatass 80lb hipster barista ate them all  at haunted underground starbucks, and comix book store where things were looked at and jokes were made

Edit: also I put on It Was A Good Day on the drive to the pirates starbucks and he did not know who it was and I turned it off because of the disgrace

Had my first ultrasound today, after I was subjected to the terror that is an internal pelvic exam.

I was sitting there in what looked and felt like an oversized paper towel with my ass hanging out but after all the initial embarrassment, seeing Little (not so little anymore! size of a small strawberry!) Bean's heartbeat and watchin it kick around on the screen was really neat.

Both me and baby are perfectly healthy and measuring right on schedule for a confirmed delivery date of February 19, 2012.

SO THATS THE GOOD NEWS

Here is what Amalah had to say.

(https://thebackalleys.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.alphamom.com%2Flegacy%2Fpregnancy-calendar%2Fweek9.jpg&hash=7a446e201ac029a1588863f38e4f3cf3907513cc)
9 Weeks
Your Baby:

Is about the size of a large grape, a small strawberry, or perhaps a cocktail olive, the kind that's marinated in vermouth and stuffed with blue cheese.
(Is not marinated in vermouth or stuffed with blue cheese.)
Has fingers and toes and eyelids and ears.
External boy and girl-parts are present, but won't be really distinguishable for another couple weeks.

You:

Have a uterus the size of a flipping grapefruit, lady.
*BARF* Again. Still.
With all the extra blood pumping through your system (about 50% more blood volume, actually), your body temperature may be a little jacked up — if you're constantly complaining about being too hot or too cold, this is why.

yeah it's a pretty ironically funny statement

what i meant was that i never really notice the age gap when i talk to people here so when events like this happen it's like a reality check. i don't check this forum that much, the people i'm usually around are my age, so when i find out that this kind of stuff is going on in your lives, it's interesting. i'm not implying that i'm not getting older or experiencing new things, but i am implying that i usually don't think about age when i do actually talk to you guys. it's not only that people are getting older, either; i can't believe that jake is only 17.

Quote from: rtilany strange cravings yet

Most of that is over with, thankfully... I finally understand the whole "craving thing" and I think its more that there are so many food aversions, things that make you gag to think about or smell that you might have loved before, that you'll think of something that DOESN'T make you gag and realize you've gotta have it.

The food aversions thing is terrible but a fantastic concept when you realize that it evolved in humans as a way to protect the fetus from foods and chemicals that it hasn't developed enzymes to break down or protect itself from. A lot of the aversions make sense in that way too, as most of it is meat, fried and processed foods, spices, and complex vegetables.

I mostly "craved" shellfish.... crabs, scallops, shrimp. Turns out these are incredibly simple for the body to break down and contain so many good nutrients, so I was supposed to be eating more of them anyway.

It's Sunday, which means I am now one more week closer to losing my excuse for not doing things! I also... could it be?? have a teensy bit of a baby bump. Others cant see it, but when I'm lying down in bed, I can definitely tell.

Let's see what Amalah has to say about Ponyo this week.

(https://thebackalleys.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fparentingsquad.com%2Ffiles%2Fparentingsquad.com%2Fimagecache%2Fblog_image_full%2Ffiles%2Fparentingsquad.com%2Fblog-images%2Fdisney_ponyo_1.jpg&hash=f5599f9860acb1e4c74df1f8774a6d88d2160aa7)
10 Weeks
Your baby:

Will officially be considered a fetus by the end of this week.
Is over an inch long, maybe by as much as 1/2 of ANOTHER WHOLE INCH. HULK BABY GREW HALF AN INCH LAST WEEK....!
That's about the size of a...hmm... prune.
Has a heartbeat strong enough to be heard via a Doppler.
Most congenital conditions appear before the end of week 10, meaning the most delicate and critical development period is over. You can breathe a sigh of relief over that, but...uh, I wouldn't go celebrate the milestone with a bathtub of gin, or anything.

You:

Might be starting to feel just the teensiest bit better, symptom-wise. Morning sickness "typically" peaks around week nine, but you have my permission to tell me to shove that "typical" business up my ass.
Just like I just flipped the double bird at my copy of Your Pregnancy Week by Week for telling me that I don't need maternity clothes yet. Look, my bump may be 75% methane gas at this point, but that doesn't mean my gasbaby should be made to suffer constricting waistbands.
New bras might be a good idea, as I recently discovered after seeing a photo of myself taken by someone else and oh look! Armpit boobs!

Congratulations! You've made it to the double-digits. The final weeks of the first trimester will slowly tick by but then ta-da! Second Trimester.

because im being 100% serious about everything ive ever said ever

also my dad actually had me watch this as a kid, along with nightmare on elm street, and i never once felt the urge to do anything like that at all, nor was i ever frightened. he laughed at it because it is a comedy and i thought it was hilarious too, even at age 6.

will i let my kid watch it at that age too? most likely not. thats not exactly the path im going to take in parenting. will i freak out if i find out my kid has seen something rated r or even this movie specifically? also not likely, because i know what i saw and what my family has seen, how we turned out, and i also know that my dad and stepmom's very strict policy on age and movie rating has done nothing for the terrible sick minds of my two brothers (age 6 and 8) who shock me with some of the shit they say and think without having seen anything in a movie. imaginations are a wild place

im going to go back to eating my yogurt and pretending i didnt have to state the obvious about whether or not i was seriously listing Evil Dead 2 as something i was going to purchase for a newborn infant

Yet another week has passed.

Let's see what Amalah has to say about Ponyo this week.

11 Weeks
Your baby:

Is the size of a small lemon or large lime. With a twist! Yeah, we're done with the bean and nut comparisons and have moved onto fruit. Next stop, small household appliances!
Is officially a fetus, and is downright human-baby looking with non-webbed fingers and toes, although s/he needs a lot more cooking and fattening up.
Is moving and kicking and dancing and even hiccuping, although you won't be able to feel the acrobatics for a few more weeks (sometime between weeks 16 and 20).

You:

Please, it's just all more of the same. The pregnancy books are all yapping about how much better and less sick/exhausted/crabby we should be feeling by now, and I spent a very productive morning hurling several particularly annoying tomes at the wall.
(whispers) The puking has stopped. Last time I puked straight through week 14, and still couldn't really eat anything until week 16. I'm still not loving food and food smells, but oh, dear God, I think the puking has stopped.

I don't remember much from any of my childhood books, except for Corduroy, which I don't remember if it was any good or not:

It was about a lost teddy bear kicking it in an empty department store, and that's about all I remember.

oh also, Tove Jansson's work might be worth buying, since her work is still really popular to this day:

12 Weeks

12 weeks is a big deal because it marks the last week of the most volatile trimester. Once women hit the 12th week, they are 80% more likely to carry their pregnancy to full term.

Let's see what Amalah has to say this week!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ_LqtcpDZI

Your Baby:

Is about two-and-a-half inches long. So still in the lemon/lime range. Comparison reruns! Sorry about that.
Already has pretty much every structure, organ and system needed for life by this point. Everything will continue to develop and mature, but your baby really is a perfect little miniature human being.
Reproductive organs are distinctly male or female. A 3D ultrasound could possibly make a pretty good guess at the sex now.
Can officially be Bugged By You. Reflexes have developed, so if you push on your uterus, your baby will squirm and move in response. You can't feel it, but it sure is fun to imagine getting flipped off by your fetus.

You:

Are you feeling better? I hope you're feeling better. I keep thinking I'm feeling better and then I'm not. And then I am again! And then I smell whatever it is that you're eating over there and BLEH.
Have a big-ass uterus now — too big to remain all low in your pelvis. It'll sort of grow and migrate upwards during the second trimester. Pros: you won't have to pee so much. Cons: your baby will better be able to land many, many karate chops to your internal organs.
Are probably in some maternity clothes now, especially if this isn't your first pregnancy and/or haven't lost weight due to morning sickness. The whole waist-butt-thigh region is spreading, and it's best to just go with it and be comfortable.

yeah, i have the names picked out but i dont really want to tell anyone in case i change my mind/people have a negative opinion on them. i really shouldnt have told my mom; shes been telling all of her friends and it is upsetting because i dont want people to call my baby a name i might have decided against later.

im sure ill make a final decision on it later, maybe not until seeing the baby in person.

but for now i just think of the baby as ponyo

Hooray second trimester!!!
I am personally feeling much better in the throwing up department (though I can't explain the anomaly that had me hanging over the toilet bowl puking TODAY) and life is good!
I am actually a day late reporting the 13th week, but today was a doctor's appointment and they gave me a surprise ultrasound, so that was neat. I can attest to Ponyo having all the fingers and toes and a heartbeat because I SAW it, I SAW THE THINGS. I just felt bad that we woke the poor thing up. It gave us a little wiggle dance at the end of the show, though.

Let's see what Amalah has to say this week!

Your Baby:

Is about three inches long, the size of a jumbo shrimp, or a small peach.
Has his or her own unique fingerprints already.
Has intestines on the INSIDE of his or her body. (They start developing outside the body, in the umbilical cord, and then sort of...migrate up to their proper home around 13 weeks. I know. Biology is WEIRD, dude.)
Will look less and less like a Big Giant Head and more and more proportionate as the next weeks tick by.

You:

Are probably not puking anymore? But don't freak out if you still are? I generally feel iffy until around week 16, although right now I'm only suffering from the occasional dry heave (on Tuesdays. Every damn Tuesday.) and have actual full days where I want to eat everything in sight because it's all so gooooood.
Are probably not as tired anymore? Unless you are me? I still can't seem to get enough sleep or make it through the day without a catnap. Although maybe I am just very lazy.
May start glowing soon, like everybody always talks about. The "glow" is actually just hormonal changes in your skin's oil production, but it seems most people find it dewy and lovely instead of...ew, gross, oil.
Your hair and nails might be changing as well — a lot of women stop shedding hair during their pregnancies, leading to very thick heads of hair that may also grow faster. Fingernails tend to get stronger and longer as well, which I can personally attest to BEING AWESOME.
Welcome to the second trimester! Well, the second trimester as defined by MOST pregnancy books and calendars, although I believe there may be one or two that count week 13 as part of the first trimester (cough cough BabyCenter Essential Guide to Pregnancy and Birth cough), but they can suck eggs, frankly. I would never do that to you. We are in the second trimester, baby. I promise it gets better.

Let's see what Amalah has to say this week!

Your Baby:

Is about the size of your fist, unless you have giant man-hands or something.
Has a strong, whoosh-whooshy heartbeat that can usually be found pretty easily now with a doppler. It's much faster than yours (between 120 – 160 bpm), and sounds vaguely like a washing machine.
Has probably started sucking its thumb.

You:

Should be noticing a definite decrease in some of the more crap symptoms from the first trimester, although fatigue and nausea do tend to stick around a little longer for some women.
Probably aren't as bothered by breast tenderness anymore, although your boobs will continue to grow in size in the weeks and months ahead. Reassess your bra size periodically and make sure you aren't mashing the girls into something you've outgrown.
If this is your first pregnancy, you may FINALLY feel like you're starting to "show" with a little belly pooch.
If this is your second (or third or fourth or etc.) pregnancy, you've probably been in maternity clothes or been rubber-banding your pants for a few weeks already, so pffft.

Babycenter gets a little more detailed than she does, though:

How your baby's growing:
This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.
In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells.

Amalah.

Your Baby:

Is as big as a...wait for it...beefsteak tomato! Doesn't that sound deliciously substantial? Am resisting urge to go pinch some produce as I type this.
Has started "breathing" amniotic fluid in through its nose and respiratory tract, giving those lungs some very early practice for the real thing. (Late in the third trimester, you can actually watch the fetal breathing on an ultrasound, and lo, it is very cool.)
Can sense light and pressure from outside of the womb, so if you want to get a jump start on annoying the crap out of your kid, shine a flashlight on your stomach or chase it around with the doppler wand every night. Or gently caress your belly while singing lullabies in a variety of foreign language and mediating on the Zen-ness of it all. You know, whatever your personal parenting style goes for.

You:

May be experiencing some of the weirder symptoms of pregnancy, many of which can start early in the second trimester. Including! For example!
Sinus congestion! Runny nose! Stuffed-up nose! It's called rhinitis of pregnancy and once again, they just blame it on "hormones." Get yourself a humidifier or vaporizer, inhale steam in a fogged-up bathroom or try those saline nasal drops. Ask your doctor before taking any decongestant or medicated nasal spray.
Bleeding gums! A side effect of all that extra blood you've got coursing through your system. (Nosebleeds are common too.)
Skin pigmentation! The linea nigra, or that darkish line that runs down the center of your belly, sometimes shows up as soon as you start showing, sometimes much later. Moles, freckles and birthmarks can spread and/or darken. You might notice some melasma, or "mask of pregnancy" across your face, particularly if you spend a lot of time in the sun or have a naturally olive or darker complexion. A lot — but not all — of these changes will fade after you give birth. When in doubt, slather up on the sunscreen to increase your odds that they'll be temporary.
Forgetfulness! Pregnancy brain! Gestational amnesia! Whatever you want to call it, you probably know what I'm talking about. In the past week alone, I've 1) run a load of laundry without any detergent, 2) made coffee without a filter, 3) tossed a Ziploc of frozen chicken to defrost in the sink but forgot to actually seal the bag, and 4) stared at my husband for three full minutes while trying to remember his name.

A post not about tomatoes!!

I am home after 24 hours of playing with doctors because of severe vomiting and dehydration. I feel pretty bad not gonna lie but at least I have not vomited in 2hours so that's good.

Mom jokes I am allergic to the baby.

This.

Or maybe with a little bit of vinegar and salt on them.

Or my personal favorite: a few slices of tomato inbetween some hot toast with mayonnaise.

17 weeks (https://thebackalleys.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pregnancyweeks.us%2Fpictures%2Fweek17.jpg&hash=0a514452fd0aff82aa0be7e4b30d57be4fc1ccd5)
I skipped a week because the forum was being worked on but I am now 17 weeks in, and almost halfway through my pregnancy. I go for a checkup tomorrow and in 8 days I'll be finding out the sex of the baby!

Heres what Amalah has to say about week 17:

Your Baby:

Is about five inches long from head to rump, which is the EXACT height of the jar of salsa I am currently quadruple dipping into. Bowls are for suckers.
Has begun to develop the all-important adipose tissue — more affectionately known as baby fat.
Is hard at working transforming its skeleton from soft cartilage into solid bone. Get this baby a part on Heroes.

You:

Possibly feel immensely huge and very pregnant, but your bump probably isn't as noticeable as you think it is. People may hesitate to comment or miss it completely, like the woman last night who came up and handed me an alcoholic cocktail and seemed genuinely shocked when I politely refused it, despite the fact that I feel like my belly eclipses my shoes at this point.
"Normal" weight gain at this point can be anything between five and 13 pounds, although y'all know how I feel about the word "normal." One book I read this week advised any woman who has gained more than 13 pounds to see a nutritionist and "be more careful", while my doctor COMPLIMENTED me last Wednesday on not managing to gain a single blessed pound yet. I want to stab the world in the eyeballs with a fork right now, a little bit.

Ah, baby movement. On the one hand, it's been a downright fabulous week, what with the regular sensations and acrobatics I'm feeling in my uterus. There really is nothing like it in the world — both wonderful and WEIRD because my lands, there's a teeny little moving person living inside your body. Biology! Whatever will it think of next.

it still amazes/horrifies me that this is how humans have babies

i always wondered what it would be like if women laid eggs instead

imagine all the electronic devices and careers that would be centered around taking care of the eggs during the 9 month growth

18 Weeks

It's a boy!!!!!

This week was obviously a big deal because I got to find out that my little fetus is actually a boy! AND on top of that ], our Glorious Leader Rtil is doing an amazing thing by starting an online baby shower /donation charity (http://www.thebackalleys.com/forum/index.php?topic=11294.0) where you can get a pizza baby pixel award for helping out. This means so much to me and I appreciate to anyone who helps out!!

Medical information for this week:

How your baby's growing:
Head to rump, your baby is about 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and he weighs almost 7 ounces. He's busy flexing his arms and legs — movements that you'll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. His blood vessels are visible through his thin skin, and his ears are now in their final position, although they're still standing out from his head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his nerves, a process that will continue for a year after he's born. If you're having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If you're having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, but he may hide them from you during an ultrasound.

How your life's changing:
Hungry? An increase in appetite is pretty common about now. Make it count by choosing meals and snacks that are rich in nutrients instead of empty calories (chips, French fries, candy, and other sweets). Bigger, more comfortable clothes are a must now as your appetite and waistline grow.
Your cardiovascular system is undergoing dramatic changes, and during this trimester your blood pressure will probably be lower than usual. Don't spring up too fast from a lying or sitting position or you might feel a little dizzy.
From now on, when you do lie down, it's best to lie on your side — or at least partly tilted to one side. (When you lie flat on your back, your uterus can compress a major vein, leading to decreased blood return to your heart.) Try placing a pillow behind you or under your hip or upper leg for comfort.
If you haven't already had a second-trimester ultrasound, you'll probably have one soon. This painless procedure helps your practitioner check how your baby's growing, screen for certain birth defects, check the placenta and umbilical cord, determine whether the due date you're working with is accurate, and see how many babies you're carrying. During the exam, you might see your baby moving around or sucking his thumb. Bring your partner along, and be sure to ask for a printout for your baby's first photo album!

wow, don't be so quick to judge. it was pretty obviously a somewhat sarcastic remark, acting as if it was a really bizarre coincidence that a person online had the same name as someone i know in real life.

not everyone constantly tries to brag that they have a girlfriend. i don't even think it's a particularly good thing to brag about, as most people have partners of some kind. so that is just a cynical assumption.

and of course, i'm only left with one other option. if i'm not bragging, then obviously i'm an idiot who thinks lauren is an uncommon name. however, it was completely obvious through context and the all-caps styling that my post was not to be taken seriously, so it looks like the real idiot here is, well, you!

I have been woefully slack on this topic for a couple weeks, and I'm sorry to the small handful of those who might have checked it on a regular basis. So I'm going to make up for it with a more personal update instead of the medical facts I usually post. They aren't very exciting this week, anyway.

Week 19 was pretty uneventful beyond the excitement of finding out an old friend of mine from England will be coming to stay with me for a couple weeks. I haven't seen him since 2006 and he was also the first person from the internet I ever met, so I'm excited to see how much he's changed (it's not painfully obvious to see how I have changed.)
Speaking of which, I am now sporting a sizeable bump - one that some days I completely adore, and others (like yesterday at the beach) I try to hide. It is incredibly apparent to those who know I am pregnant, but strangers probably just think that I'm in desperate need of a good diet plan.

At 20 weeks, I am now HALFWAY THROUGH my pregnancy (wtf its going so fast).  When I first posted here back in June, baby was the size of a god damn sesame seed. Now the kid is coming in at a whopping 10.5 inches, the length of a banana, or according to some sites, the size of a fucking cantaloupe. He is a pretty chill baby but some things set him into a rage (like throwing back a tall glass of ice water, or anytime I am trying to sleep) and he will kick and punch like a madman. To those of you who are wondering, no, it doesnt hurt (yet), yes it kind of feels like I'm in Alien, but overall its a really cool feeling. If I'm lying on my back, I can even see the kicks from the outside during his rowdiest moments.

I've got a doctor's appointment on Monday so next week's entry might be more interesting.

"Congratulations! You're now housing a human who weighs nearly a pound and measures nearly a foot in length!
Your wee babe's perfect little pancreas (a super-duper organ that produces hormones and aids in digestion) is now making its own hormones for your baby's body and brain!
If you were worried, you can finally stop that: your baby's future in the circus as a world-famous tight-rope-walker is secure now that their inner ear is developed to the point that they have their own sense of balance.
Luckily for your little womb-explorer, this new balance promotes physical dexterity, which has them actively feeling out their surroundings where skin, body parts, and the resident umbilical cord are the big sensory experiences.
Your sweet babe is sort of looking like an oversized red prune right now as more and more skin (and therefore wrinkles) are showing up each week.
Not to worry, all those wrinkles are just your baby's way of planning ahead for the time when they'll start piling on all of that irresistible baby chub."

Your Baby:

Is almost two pounds. Celebrate this milestone with a two-pound box of chocolates. You know, in order to really get a good VISUAL.
Remember those early bubbly butterfly kicks? Yeah. Those have been replaced by something akin to a rabid mongoose flippin' out inside a burlap sack.
If you DO occasionally feel smaller, rhythmic movements in your belly, it's probably your baby hiccuping. Babies actually get hiccups from late in the first trimester on, but most women don't pick on them the second trimester or later.
All five senses are fully developed. Whoa.

You:

Are in the last and final week of the second trimester! (At least according to the books I've chosen to listen to — some mark the beginning of the third trimester as week 27, while some make you wait until week 28. Look, we're all big and lumpy and ridiculously cranky, let's get this final trimester STARTED.)
Of course, the end of the second trimester also marks the end of the so-called "honeymoon" phase of pregnancy, as the final three months can get awfully uncomfortable. Back and joint pain, swollen ankles, restless nights and Braxton-Hicks contractions, ahoy!
You'll gain about 1/2 inch in belly/fundal size EVERY WEEK from this point on, oh mah gah. I guess I should stop being so smug about those pre-pregnancy lowrise jeans I've been wearing (with just a little help from my trusty rubber band).

Your Baby:

Hey! Remember when I told you your baby was as big as a gummy bear? Oh, about 19 or 20 weeks ago?
Now imagine a two-pound, 15-inch-long gummy bear. Yep.
Eyelids (which have been fused since 11 or 12 weeks) can now open and close.

You:

Are officially in the third trimester! Feel free to celebrate/panic at will.
May notice more of that pesky round ligament pain as your belly gets harder and bigger and rounder, or as it starts to dip down a little bit, looking a little less perky and cute than it did a few weeks ago.
Depending on your baby's position, the kicks and movements might be a little painful. Feet up under your ribcage, jabs to the cervix, random body parts of mystery poking you way off to the side, where you didn't even think those little appendages were long enough to reach.

Been keeping busy lately! Fun family drama and a wealth of excitement to be had. Things are starting to speed up a bit with pregnancy. I am now seeing my doctor every other week instead of just once a month, and enjoying being the human pincushion. Time for a routine test - let's get a blood draw. You are a white person? Get a blood draw. You're breathing! Let's get a blood draw!
He s got his sleeping pattern pretty regular now. I can always tell when he's sleeping and when he's awake. He likes being up around 2am the best, and I'm okay with that. :)

FOR THOSE INTERESTED... he is about 15 inches... some sites are saying the size of an eggplant, or a chinese cabbage. perhaps the size of a large pineapple, leaves included? He's only a few inches off from birth length, the remainer of the time will really just be spent fattening up.

Here's what amalah says for 28 weeks:
Your Baby:
Continues to get a longer and fatter by the day. Shocking, I know. His or her weight has actually doubled in the past month alone, which is why you've probably gotten comments about "popping" recently.
Weight is around 2.5 pounds right now, which (if you're like me, gazing in horror and your inside-out belly button and spidery stretch marks) might sound a little frightening, since the baby clearly needs to gain a LOT MORE WEIGHT before he or she is fully cooked, and oh my God, how in the world is anything bigger going to fit in there?

You:
Are either feeling like this pregnancy will NEVER end, or that 12 more weeks is simply not nearly enough time to prepare. Or you might feel both ways, changing your mind one minute to the next.

Your Baby:

Blah blah blah 3.3 pounds, bag of oranges, sock full of nickels, etc.
Enjoys yawning, sucking his or her thumb, kicking mom in the diaphragm.
Turn-offs include: getting the hiccups, really loud noises and you trying to do all that boring "sleeping" at night.

You:

Can totally round down your answer to "two months" when people ask you how much longer you have to go. DO NOT focus on the crazy week-to-month-ratio math at this point in pregnancy, particularly when there are breakable, smashy objects within reach.
May be weirdly and inexplicably congested all the time. I, for one, appear to be allergic to my pillow. This is also prime time for pregnancy colds, as the toll on your body and immune system is getting higher by the week. Take it easy, slow down, take your vitamins and try try try to get enough sleep.
Can now play everybody's favorite game, Guess The Body Part That's Sticking Out Next To My Belly Button! Elbow or heel? Head or butt? Did I seriously just maybe feel my baby's BIG TOE?

How your baby's growing:
By now, your baby weighs 3.75 pounds (pick up a large jicama) and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus. You're gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, she'll gain a third to half of her birth weight during the next 7 weeks as she fattens up for survival outside the womb. She now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). Her skin is becoming soft and smooth as she plumps up in preparation for birth.

How your life's changing:
To accommodate you and your baby's growing needs, your blood volume has increased 40 to 50 percent since you got pregnant. With your uterus pushing up near your diaphragm and crowding your stomach, the consequences may be shortness of breath and heartburn. To help relieve your discomfort, try sleeping propped up with pillows and eating smaller meals more often.

You may have lower-back pain as your pregnancy advances. If you do, let your caregiver know right away, particularly if you haven't had back pain before, since it can be a sign of preterm labor.
Assuming it's not preterm labor that's ailing you, you can probably blame your growing uterus and hormonal changes for your aching back. Your expanding uterus shifts your center of gravity and stretches out and weakens your abdominal muscles, changing your posture and putting a strain on your back. Hormonal changes in pregnancy loosen your joints and the ligaments that attach your pelvic bones to your spine. This can make you feel less stable and cause pain when you walk, stand, sit for long periods, roll over in bed, get out of a low chair or the tub, bend, or lift things.

Congratulations! You've got what is officially considered a full-term baby, even with three weeks to go. That doesn't mean he's finished growing — in fact, he's still packing on about a half pound a week (at this age, the average fetus weighs about 6.5 pounds). That makes it a little crowded in your uterus, so he's probably not kicking as much, though he's probably stretching, rolling a bit, and wiggling (all of which you'll be able to feel!). Right now, your little superstar is busy rehearsing for his big debut, inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid (to get the lungs ready for that first breath), sucking his thumb (to prepare for that first suckle of milk), blinking, and turning from side to side.

Week 37 Pregnancy Symptoms
Changes in fetal activity: By the time your baby's head is engaged in your pelvis, he'll have a lot less room for any more than a twist or squirm. What's important is that you feel some movement every day. Remember, though, that your baby is behaving like a newborn now and has interludes of deep sleep, when he barely moves at all.

Heartburn or indigestion: If your heartburn is getting worse these days, try eating a handful of almonds. Other home remedies that may banish the burn: a tablespoon of honey in warm milk or some dried papaya.

Cervical dilation or effacement: To get ready for labor, your cervix will dilate (open up) and efface (get thinner). For some women, the two take place gradually, over a period of weeks or months. Others can efface and dilate overnight. You won't be able to feel it, but your practitioner will be able to tell during an internal exam.

Pelvic pressure and discomfort: If your baby's head is pressing into your pelvis, hips, and bladder, you'll feel more pressure as the week wears on. If you feel really uncomfortable, invest in a belly sling that will support the weight of your belly and take pressure off your back (see below) and pelvis.

Leg cramps: If leg cramps are making a misery of your nights, try drinking more fluids during the day and make sure you're eating enough calcium (those almonds you're munching for the heartburn come in handy again!) and magnesium. All three can help with leg cramps.

Stretch marks: With your boobs and belly (and possibly butt) as big as they've ever been, you've probably noticed those classic marks of maternity by now. Don't worry, they'll fade into silvery lines and turn into a badge of pride (or at least motherhood!) a few months after childbirth.

Forgetfulness: There are so many things to keep track of now (Is the camera charged and packed? Do you have a baby outfit washed and ready to bring to the hospital? How many dinners are stocked in the freezer?) that it's no wonder you're walking around in a fog. Post reminders around the house and on your computer so you won't forget appointments.

Difficulty sleeping: You've heard that pregnancy insomnia is Mother Nature's way to prepare you for the sleepless nights ahead, but try to squeeze in some shut-eye so you have enough energy for childbirth and beyond. Sleep in a little longer, nap when you come home after work or on weekends, and give yourself a relaxing routine when it's time for bed.
