Do your other senses work when you dream?

I need to write a nightmare for a bit in a story, and someone suggested more or less that I need to make the idea more visceral than gross for it to work, and I assumed she meant that I needed to get into other senses for that. My issue with that is that when I dream, I don't feel anything, I don't smell anything and I don't taste anything. I once had a dream where I yarked a big, partially crushed spider out of my mouth and I distinctly remember just feeling surprised because I hadn't tasted anything I'd imagine a spider tastes like and I didn't feel it inside my mouth.

don\\\'t focus too much on senses, you\\\'ll be way better off to explore all kinds of emotions, them clashing together and shifting in a really fast pace.

i mean god damnit just write what you know about and who the hell hasn\\\'t had a single dream or nightmare in their life

Fuzz

I can usually do everything but feel. I'm always numb, unless my body is actually being hurt and then I dream about why it's hurting.

This.

I feel things in my dreams. Flying is pretty cool because it feels like swimming, but with no water and breathing underwater is pretty self-explanatory: swimming while breathing as usual. I rarely smell or taste in a dream though. I think the last time I tasted something in a dream was while coughing up sludge and it woke me up 'cause it was nasty.

Emotions drive nightmares more than sense perception though, like anticipating what's going to happen next and really, REALLY not wanting it to happen. Like, the sense of dreading your mom trying to kill you via stabbing, strangling, poisoning, siccing deadly spiders onto you, etcetera or drowning and seeing that last breath bubble float up as you keep sinking down.

a couple of nights ago

i was dreaming and then suddenly, i was aware that i was dreaming

i had a breif moment of my true life goal, which is to speak to my subconcious

i remember thinking of people that i don't remember the faces of, i only remembered their name, and my subconcious presented me with a visual of their face

it was the coolest shit ever

ya, lucid dreaming. you can actually train that by asking you "am i dreaming?" once or twice a day. shit's coo'

mexifry

Any of my lucid dreams, it felt as if it were completely real. Like all 5 senses.
Any normal dream though is usually blurred and vague though.

Senses in dreams work, even reaching your actual physical states. Fear, rage, joy, sadness, all of those feelings can be obtained during a dream.

Prime example: Ever heard of nocturnal emissions? Leave out the handparty for a couple of month and your sack will discharge the acid cream by itself. You may even remember parts of the wet dream when you wake up in your soaked, sticky pants.
Yes, go ahead and try to remember how old you were...

I have had back spasms in my sleep and my brain made it so I was being hit in the back with  hammer until my spine showed through my skin.  I woke up and my back was aching. So I guess pain receptors are able to transfer their sensations into certain states of unconsciousness.

your subconcious brain can do anything to any part of your body or mind
