Like for example why you put all the purple color on her backside of her leg. I know there's purple in the lighting and sky and shit but why the highlight there specifically. It works really well and I cant figure out what made your decision. I must be missing something

the best way i can describe is ambient light. it's not the same as bounce light, but more like the light that something gives off that spreads softly to things around it. it helps a lot with abrupt color changes, and you see it a lot in the real world. in art it's usually exaggerated to give off an effect that most people would call bloom. it can be overdone but honestly i think it looks amazing if done right. it's like the real world on hyper sensory overload, and it just works.

when you make your drawings/paintings/sketches, how many pixels do you usually work with?

are you talking about dpi, or canvas size? if it's dpi usually 150 if it's a sketch or 300 if i paint in case i ever want to print it
if it's canvas size, i don't like to work anything smaller than 1000px height or width depending on which is the longest. paintings in their raw size are fairly large on the screen, usually 2x or 3x larger than the size i submit them in

canvas size. i was wondering b/c other artists i follow say they work with fairly large canvases before reducing the size and i wasn't sure exactly how much they reduced them by.

if i plan on making a 'serious' painting i generally pick a canvas size in inches that's a standard print size. something like 17x11, and at 300 dpi that makes for a fairly large canvas in pixels.
