so i was on dA complaining about cartoon network's new looney tunes cartoon that is bound to be totally awful and someone pointed me to kaboingTV, a project started by Joe Murray, maker of Rocko's Modern Life and Camp Lazlo. if you watch his pitch, it's basically an idea for an online web channel for independent cartoons.

he has to raise $16.8k before june 5th and he only has $2.8k. i'm definitely going to chip in a bit. i think he's got the right idea.

The Looney Tunes Show: A new half-hour animated comedy series starring Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. No longer confined to 7-minute shorts, Bugs and Daffy are out of the woods and living in the suburbs among such colorful neighbors as Yosemite Sam, Granny, Tweety and Sylvester. In addition to each episode's main story, The Looney Tunes Show also features "cartoons within a cartoon." on the other hand, i'm quite excited for this kaboing tv idea and truly hope that it pulls through in the end..though i'm still nervous about the fact that the total pledges are not yet a quarter of the way towards the goal and there are 42 days left.

Cool idea, but I'm a cheapskate. Rocko's Modern Life is easily my favorite Nickelodeon show though.

first of all i think that's more of an animatic than anything, and second it's not just money for his cartoon, it's also for his independent animation web channel, which i presume will be a big site of its own that he won't be able to make on his own.

im guessing that getting funding will allow him to run the site without advertisements or having to get sponsorship from other companies so that his site can remain independent. and also he's gonna be paying animators to help make his cartoon. i wonder why it has to be 16k tho

16K does sound like a lot of money, but I guess that kind of money would allow for him to live for a while on it and focus all of his energy on animating. Who wants to have a part time job AND have to run a huge site, animate, etc. at the same time? How would he make money off of the site? I'm sure he'll have a donation link, but that only gets you so far...

im not arguing that he doesnt need money to pay for his site but no where on that kickstarter page does it say anything about that, and only that its going to be used to make the rest of the episodes of 'frog in a suit' which is ridiculous because both you and I know you dont need money to make cartoons

it does talk mostly about his pitch for that series, but i'm more interested in the website than the show. if he ends up putting the kaboing thing on the backburner, i'll probably pull my money out.

The first series out of the gate is my Rocko'esque insane neurotic animated comedy "Frog in a Suit". I have already completed the first episode with my own money, and am working to finish two more 3 minute episodes. The money raised on this site will go to the completion, mostly putting outside animators to work with the final animation and color styling.

All he is saying is that he needs the money to spend it on the completion of this cartoon project. The condition for running the website, though, is that he gets enough support in form of donations to finish that cartoon.
He's more or less forcing people like you (rtil) who believe in a good version of I have frequent fantasies of a Dugtrio thrusting all of it's phallic bodies into my deepest cavities, sending me into a state of infinite, indescribable pleasure. If I could not have a Dugtrio, a Diglett would suffice as well. to help him, finishing his private project.
How this website is going to look like when this whole thing should succeed can't be foreseen but it can be foreseen that he won't spend an amount of 16.000$ for its creation for he is planning to finance it on his own and I'm pretty sure he won't spend much for it as he wasn't even able to afford the money for a project he started more or less for his own sake, just using this website as a platform to promote it.
That it stands for the independence of cartoons may be more or less nothing but an expedient. Keep in mind that he didn't mention any detail of how much artists like you will be able to use this platform for their own projects and even if it would be the case, as well keep in mind that there is always one who benefits...

i really doubt its going to be like NG with silly gimmicks like pixel trophies and a rating system and all that. hopefully it wont have spam all over it
and hopefully he can convince other animators from nikelodeon or CN to contribute their own content to the site
