you should really avoid the 'chicken scratch' type of drawing. if you like lines, try hatching. use the direction and flow of the lines to suggest volume and tone.

Yeah I went way too crazy there. I started at messy gesturing then kept the same lineflow when contour and value came up. In the future I'll be sure to mind it more.

design interpretation of rembrandt's nightwatch. the teacher liked it and suggested a few things I'll be changing later for portfolio (make the black circle in the back grow into more of the background and maybe make it a darker purple. some other small things for depth too.)
