lately i've been watching a bunch of depressing, foreboding videos from economists and brokers like peter schiff who are basically saying that if we don't get a lot of shit done right now our dollar will completely collapse and this country will be in economic ruin for years and years. and i don't think they're far off, considering the only way the government thinks it can solve our problems is by throwing more money at it and printing the difference, which is exactly what you're not supposed to do.

would you stay in the US and wait it out, even if our dollar became worthless and life got really tough?

personally, despite my stubborness, i would get the hell out of here before all that happened and i wouldn't want to deal with it. i would probably move to canada. it's closest and they have a sound economy.

i know you're probably thinking it's "gay" to care about all this stuff, but a few years from now you won't if you're living on your own and it costs $10 for a loaf of bread.

i hope that none of this stuff happens, but we're certainly on our way. stuff like this:

The economy has been improving quite a bit, Fox News just likes bitching about everything, even if the DOW was gaining 1000 points a day, they'd still be screaming like banshees that America is fucked because of Obama.

As for moving out of the country, if I did, it wouldn't be dependent on a situation like this.

It's not so hard to get a nice little shelter here.

But really, Oregon is probably good in this cause, seeing as they don't have any taxes, is that right?

i heard texas is one of the few states that doesnt have like HUGE economic problems

Ashington

That looks really damn bad, going somewhere economically safe is definately the smart move. Also find as many ways to reduce bills as possible. Here in the UK we've got some serious issues too, hell, i'm the only person in my group of friends who could actually get a job. And guess which genius we have trying (terribly) to fix this situation.

maybe so, but food is of equal importance. and living costs in california are absolutely insane.

oregon does have taxes, just not a sales tax.

they aren\\\'t doing too bad, true. but if the dollar goes down, texas goes with it. unless they really did secede from the union, which i don\\\'t believe is possible without a formal breakup of the federal government

It really depends in CA, but yeah a lot of it is expensive, especially if you live in Marin, San Fran, San Diego.

Living isn't too expensive if you live in very rural places like Lake County, though, would any of you like to live in a place where there's nothing to do but outdoors stuff? And very hot too.

yeah i always think cities like LA when i think california, because that's where i'd probably be living if i was there. but no matter where you live the economy is bad.

idk i dont think that moving out of the US would really solve anything since pretty much every other country's economy is affected by america's recession. japan is suffering especially. i dont really know if there are any countries that are really "economically safe"

His office isn't exactly being protected. Everytime it looks like he's going to finally get removed, some political infighting/scandal/controversy takes place or something along those lines and the bastards still around next week.

foreign nations are only affected by the united states in one way, and that is by what we consume that is theirs. producer nations have already gone through their recessions, it's the consumer/debtor nations that are feeling the burn, because an economy that functions mainly through purchasing power can't sustain itself forever without going through a recession and deflating the spending bubble. and once the american economy is no longer propped up by the chinese and japanes buying our debt through T-bills, interest rates will skyrocket and our debt will spiral out of control. the dollar will probably lose its status as the world reserve currency, and then its value will completely collapse.

japan shares two issues with the united states: an aging workforce and debt.

Rtil, would you ever live near the Lake Tahoe area in CA/NV? It's nice, and beautiful, though obviously, it's pricey. And Eureka looks nice too.

I would always like to move to Seattle or Portland and live there if I could, because they look cold, modest, and nice. And British Columbia looks pretty cool, especially Vancouver.

Lake Tahoe is nice, but i would get sick of the weather. I would rather live in Vancouver. it reminds me of Seattle a lot.
