Comp's Bricked Too!

Hey guys, I'm just having a jolly time at college...

Here's what happened. My school mandates that we have Sophos Anti-Virus and no other antivirus program. Ok, that sounds fair enough, so I download the shit and it crashes my computer, DESTROYS my computer. My computer restarts and immediately goes into gay Compaq's System Recovery from Start-Up. It goes to the default recovery, which just happens to be "Destructive Recovery", so after it claims it backed-up all my files, my computer refreshes with ZERO of my personal files, all the original startup garbage that came up from when I first bought my computer came up and it remembered nothing. The tech department at my school refused to help and told me to call Compaq (Now owned by HP), fucking phone redirected me to India, the technician said it was impossible to recover my files ever. My C: Drive still says it has the same amount of space left (like 3 Gb since I never clean my computer out) and it's pretty confusing since none of my files are there anyway. I'm wondering if you guys have any idea how to help this out.

I already had my breakdown at like 2 am already so...

Also can't access fuckin IRC since some Clean Agent bullshit the school mandated, only lets me on with limited access since Sophos is a pile of shit.

If you've done a factory restore chances are you've lost everything yes

I had a security disk for the uni's net as well and we apparently had to use that but i just stuck with kaspersky

Yeah I figured, It's just really annoying because 1. I don't have about 99% of everything I've made over the last 3 years anymore and 2. My computer if filled to the brim regardless.

I can't get on the internet without this bullshit and it forces you to delete every shred of antivirus programs on your system or it'll forbid access.

if the space remaining is the same as it was before but the files aren't there that's weird. did you try running a *.fla or *.swf search on all drives?

if you still can't find them, it's probably not too late to take it to a professional to do data recovery. but be warned, the more you use your drive after the incident, the lass chance you'll be able to recover anything that is currently missing

I just did a search for .swf files on my computer and it couldn't find anything outside of the Program Files folder, my roommates bringing a friend who specializes in this stuff over tomorrow to check it out, as for my new cartoon, I only lost like two new scenes since I uploaded it to the TBA Uploader, but all the sound would be gone as a result if I import it in so this is a little bit of a sticky situation. I'm also bummed that I lost my whole music collection.

Hell no because I am a stupid motherfucker. Also because I have my system setup to use a secondary drive to back shit up, I now realize it just says it does it without doing anything.

i did a factory restore but my original files were still lurking on the HD SOMEWHERE. i took em to a store and recovered a few, a lot of them were really corrupted though

im on compaq too so maybe the same applies to you

but i guess the moral is still BACK YOUR SHIT UP

I'm gonna back up all my shit from now on, I'm getting my roommate's friend to figure it out tomorrow though so I'm hoping I can at least get some of my work back and hopefully my music folder.

that's kinda my one beef with laptops, you can't really build your own. mostly the fact i'm paying a couple extra hundred dollars for a brand name and pre-loaded crap software

Theres still whitebooks (hard to shop around for, but they look awesome).

There is also The PC Decrapifier, which is supposed to get rid of all the preinstalled spam (saw it in a magazine once).
