Looked like a straight up actioner, which is a bit of a disappointment for me.

Love the visual style and baddie designs though.

i dont know how good 9 will be, but the fact that its getting hyped up so much is really cool considering the director was taking the same exact classes 5 years ago that i will be taking next year. shows how far a thesis film goes as far as being a calling card to the film industry

when are you going to realize it's not where you take classes or who was there before you, it's about using what you know, making something great and putting it out there. talking big is fine and dandy but it won't get you anywhere, or at least anywhere worth bragging about.

sorry didnt mean for it to sound like bragging im just gettin excited/nervous about the upcoming school year

im simply saying if a mediocre thesis film like 9, or any other student film for that matter, can within 4 years be remade into a feature film funded by tim burton, it should give hope to all young animators. its a really good time to be going into this industry and especially to know how to do 3D.

its true that it doesn't really matter where you go to school, but it definitely matters which classes you take so you can learn the skills you need to make good shit. i dont know anything about maya yet i still got to learn that

the world the movie was set in was neat and felt like the old nostalgic futuristic future and the monsters were goddamn neat
the problem is the movie fell flat on the last 1/3 of the movie
one huge build up and it just sort of stops

just saw it, gonna agree with j about it deflating after the first 2/3rds or so, which is basically just a sequence of robot battles. the robots are pretty badass, but you can only watch so many robot fights in a row before it starts to get old. there's no real build-up at the beginning, it kind of leaps right into the plot and so none of the events seem to hold any weight--they just happen.

and yeah the ending was disappointing and surprising in a bad way

also this asshole and his two asshole kids came in and they did not shut up the entire movie and when i asked him to control his offspring he shushed them once and then gave up

that's how they advertised it. yesterday i had to explain to a friend of mine that tim burton only produced 9, had nothing to do with coraline, and that henry selick deserves all the credit for nmbc
