Staying power

So I just watched Lady & The Tramp for the first time in several years and realized that this may be one of my favorite Disney movies ever. Everything about this one with the exception of the ending really stood out to me. The characters were all really neat, the voice acting was spot on and sounded incredibly natural and every god damn background looked like a masterpiece painting. But what I liked the most and only just learned, was this subplot about Lady being impregnated by Tramp, then getting tested after she gets released from the pound and then Trusty & Jock are essentially proposing to her so they can help her care for the oncoming puppies. This had been over my head for years and I never would've known without my friend pointing it out, since the setup for this subplot is pretty subtle the way it's executed.

This one compared to a lot of other movies, not just Disney ones, really held up to me. My friend and I've been watching a ton of animated movies over the course of the year, usually while doing homework and we've noticed a lot that just haven't held up, and not even simply from the "oh I liked it as a kid but looking back it was pretty stupid" perspective. Are there any specific ones you guys've rewatched, maybe recently, that you feel are really timeless and hold up for specific reasons?

Lion King's still my fav with Aladdin in 2nd place, but after learning about the Kimba/Leo and Thief & the Cobbler drama behind the creation of those two respectively my views on them didn't...go -down- or anything but they definitely changed.

that's all i can think of right now as one i'd still watch.

i never liked lady and the tramp, it was the one my parents always suggested and i was like nooo.
the drawings were just really boring, and the pacing of the movie was pretty typical of the time, ie. slow.

gotta disagree with you about the voice acting in it, i remember it feeling dated back then, so it's probably even more dated by now.

Fantasia is probably my favorite Disney movie, followed by Pinnochio. Out of the new movies they started doing in the 90's i only really like The Little Mermaid and The Lion King. I hate Aladdin >=C A whole new world can suck my dick.

To me a lot of it was because the dialogue felt really natural and realistic. The only part of the movie where it annoyed me was when Trusty and Jock are like "OH NO WE WERE WRONG ABOUT TRAMP LET'S GO SAVE HIM" all of a sudden. To me that felt more forced, or even dated than the stereotypes and accents flyin' around.

My personal favorite would be 101 Dalmatians. I kinda enjoy the atmosphere of the film and yeah Lady & the Tramp is alright.

aladdin is the best disney movie of all time and it doesn't matter how much money they threw at the lion king aladdin is still the fuckin bomb

Aladdin has held up really well and has some amazing colours, and the CG in Hercules still looks great and doesn't interfere with the main look. They're both really fun, colourful, pantomime ish movies with an awesome cast, particularly the villains.

Pocahontas, aside from the visuals, pretty much sucks nowadays, and as iconic as Lion King is i find it kinda boring.

I can't think of any Disney film that hasn't aged well to be honest because they were fucking amazing animators. I mean, even Robin Hood with its recycled character animation and low budget is still a great film.

Also @ billy, they actually threw more money at pocahontas (it was produced at the same time as lion king) most of the main animators worked on that instead. Lion king was way better though so thats why it took off, despite Pocahontas having amazing visuals.

Trusty was supposed to die in the original ending. They changed it because a kid in the test audience got emotionally scarred.

No no I'm aware, it was the same deal with the older dog from Fox & The Hound. I just thought the ending in general was really forced while the majority movie was really well executed.
