What operating system do you use?

well, i use XP with that vista skin... on a side note, does anyone else think that windows software engineers named it xp so they could make that face "XP" thats my guess, because what else could xp stand for?

it is really experince, though. however , with the dozens of security updates and SP2 it was more of an expirement.
i'd rather stick with this than move to vista, though.

Having used a laptop with Vista on (I had to get software put on to make sure the user doesn't download silly things) I can clearly say that XP is just better.
Vista is too laggy for most of the computers that run it and its so oddly organised.

ya my laptop died after i put vista on it, there was a lovely service. so i just put the skin on, it's all shiny.

xp was shitty when it was first released. just wait for the first service pack and maybe the dx10 update and then Vista will become the new XP. First-gen operating systems are pretty buggy.

Even still. Vista is worse than how XP was when it first came out.
Vista uses up far too many resources with its design (even with alot of the features switched off) and doesn't really have much difference to XP, whereas XP to 98/NT/ME was nearly a complete change.

Vista also has that DRM thing going, so I'd rather just stick with XP.

sometimes i wonder if microsoft put DRM and all these new security features in vista to purposely cut off our generation from "uprgading" to the latest operating system, and eventually we'll be so far behind everything that we'll be forced to get vista.

we better scream for all new software to have XP support until the pirates take care of vista's overbearing security features.

otherwise i'm getting a mac. :[

I think my next compy will end up being a Mac or I'll give in and attempt to use Linux.

I really don't think I could stand using Vista as a main OS.

i tried linux once, for me it's a nightmare because 1. i don't have time to learn how to use it and 2. everyone who knows how to use it is an asshole and won't help you. being an animator and needing half a dozen pieces of software every day, it's anything but convienient. a lot of my animator friends already have macs and they can do what i need, so i could see myself in a few years getting one.

we don't have any macs here. but we're not limited to fine arts. stuff like maya and 3dsmax can only run on macs with bootcamp, so why even bother.

well, most art schools used macs because not to long ago Macintosh made all of their own parts, this being done it made them quite a bit better, but it also made their computers much more expensive. long story short, they buckled and starting buying their parts from an intel based supplier, now the only difference between mac's and pc's is software, that and most mac computers look really dumb

All, all the old Macs look so weird, but I quite like the design of the iMacs.

The art college I spent a week in once had the iMac models (G4s I think) that were purely a small hemisphere (size of about half a foot/soccerball) with an adjustable screen and a keyboard. And now these new ones have the processor built into the monitor.

Windows I like more, because I'm familiar with it, but I could get into using a Mac, easily.
