Matt Wilson/Bonus Stage

I don't know, maybe it's my old 13 year old video game loving kid inside talking, but I really do enjoy Bonus Stage. When I watch his first few cartoons today, they were pretty.... bad. But what I really loved about Matt is that every season and episode, he got better and better in his writing and his animations. I was watching his stuff for a long time, right when I first learned about flash cartoons. Silly to say this, but he was a huge inspiration for what got me interested in animation. When it sorta ended abruptly, I kinda forgot all about Newgrounds and flash animation altogether for about a year. Then, about 2 years later, I see that Bonus Stage's animation, especially episode 89, is really good compared to most of the other stuff on NG.

After seeing this, it felt like watching old friends from your elementary school all grown up. Just one huge nostalgia bomb of my foolish childhood.

What do you guys think of Matt Willson? I really do love the guy and the charachters he made, but I guess it was sorta because it was one of the few first flash cartoons I've ever seen.

EDIT: Also, it was the first time I heard Rina-Chan's voice acting.

either way it's the first time i had ever seen bonus stage
yeah the first episodes are bad but the animation gets way better in the later episodes and it actually is kind of funny

but isn't it true he never finished anything after he quit bonus stage?

No, it was probably someone else.
But yeah, it is true. He just can't seem to finish anything, which really ticks me off because EVERY Bonus Stage fan wanted some kind of closure to the series. The finale really pissed off everyone, and after BS he never ever finished anything.

There was this Kill Cabin thing, which was the last REAL thing he finished, but soon after he got his house robbed of his tablet, 360, DS and other things, so he had to work more to pay for a new tablet. I really wish I could give him the money to AT LEAST give some kind of closure to Bonus Stage, but he has moved on I think.

But see that new video he posted blew my fucking mind away. It means he STILL cares about the charachters he created, but he won't complete the story. It's like seeing your old friends for one last time, and never knowing what had happened to them.

He was one of the reason I got into flash. The first few episodes were kind of crap but to a twelve year old they were golden.
Too bad he never did finish it. Reading his permanent hiatus was a big disappointment.

Yeah, I know he helped make....THAT......but still, as an animator for that kind of show, you are limited a lot of stuff. I highly doubt he enjoys it, but the guy needs money y'know. Especially since he got all his shit stolen. And he lives in New Jersey. And in a small apartment. Hell, there were rumors spreading that he started to work at a grocery store in his pig-disgusting forums.

kappa mikey is a scourge. he could make all the redeeming shit in the world and it wouldnt make up for that shit. honest to god the first time i saw that on television it was on nicktoons network. i was trying to watch old reruns of ren n stimpy and that shit was on. it quite literally made me queasy with hatred

i can say with absolute certainty there is no worse cartoon on TV

I know how you feel. It's sorta weird how he would have that on his Demo Reels, but I guess it's to show he was actually a animator for a show once.

But yeah, the IDEA of the show makes me sick to my stomach. "the first anime to be produced entirely in the United States"

His flash animations feel more alive than it. Sadly, he also helped in making the Speed Racer: The Next Generation.

I used to watch Bonus Stage all the time. From what I remembered, it was pretty good. I just wish he would finish some actually decent stuff.
