Quote from: Squeefdo you do basic shapes before you draw your characters or do you just jump right in
i only noticed big improvements a few years back when i started doing basic shapes, and then moved onto gestural, I mean you can do whatever you want and there is no set way but it might be helpful :')

I do basic shapes when I draw on paper. On flash however, I just do a quick rough draft from scratch, trace over, color, blah blah.
On paper I've always found it very useful. I've tried to do it in flash a couple of times but it just hasn't worked for me yet.

Here, i spent a little bit longer than I normally would on a drawing.

Please don't go.

Hopefully it doesn't turn out horribly. I'm gonna try to experiment a little with lighting here.
The key word here is little.

Also does anyone know why png's are always transparent?

Fuck, instead of going in and putting shading and lighting I use three gradient triangles and a bunch of textures from google.
Now there are like a million layers,

Oh, wretched ephemeral race ... why do you compel me to tell you what it would be most expedient for you not to hear? What is best of all is utterly beyond your reach: not to be born, not to be, to be nothing. But the second best for you is—to die soon.

don't cop out with the textures overlay thing, 99% of the time it's done wrong and is just slapped on as an excuse to try and make bad art look better . anyway, you need to work on composition and if you're going to do a piece with that much depth, you need to think more about the colors you use and the line width based on distance. things further away tend to fade to less saturated colors and approach a blue due to the atmosphere. so you'll probably want to make the figure holding on for dear life darker and more saturated, and the background elements should be more washed out and have thinner outlines

I've wanted to stop, but I keep seeing these wonderful artists, use them so well. In my head If I practiced using in it, someday I will be able to use it properly.
I'm guessing overuse of anything is horrible.
