FUCK IT

depends. they used it in LOTR for smeagol, that worked out pretty well. but then they used it for Polar Express, and everyone looked and moved like zombies in that film.

dilly

Not to mention that it seemed that the characters in Polar Express didn't seem to have tongues...

<@reptilicus> am I in backwards land?
<@reptilicus> if i go to the toilet will poop go up into my rectum

Zombies! Man, I need to see that film.

Motion Capture can be phenomenal. Monster House is a very prime example. That flick was produced almost as if it was a live action, and the results show. And in games, I wish more people use motion capture so people didn't look funky or like Gumby when they walked. Motion capture was used in Half-Life 2 and worked out great as well.

Dude. You bitch at everything.

Edit: my question was answered.

it looked kind of strange, i mean having a house as a character.

also, i don't think making cartoons look like they were live action is a good idea. it's self defeating in the fact that if you want a cartoon to look like live action, why not just use real people and real cameras? there always has to be a reason for seperating cartoon from real life.

its not necessary making it look live action, but move life like. There is still the art to it all. No one wants a horrible walk cycle. You model animation on the principles of actual reality and then use the 12 principles to give it back its cartoon feeling.

Quote from: athingthey didn't do anything but make some modelos and have real people just move around. It's animation without any animating. Motion capture is just about the worst thing ever

Uh, thats where you are wrong. They actually did do alot of work. The models cannot just go over the wire frames that the motion capture creates. The motion capture only creates the animating line, but they still have to go in an animate damn near everything. Then they have to extend proportions, over exaggerate some of the forms and do what most of the other animators do, only difference is they have a life like motion line to mimic.

RobjaFalu

I asked you what but you never game me an answer.

RobjaFalu

I can see your point. I found it strangly amusing though so its open for interpretation.

Motion Capture is just another form of study though. Don't you hate horrible walk cycles in all the lame flashes on Newgrounds? Or those games where the people move as if a stick was lodged in their ass? I think Motion Capture can be used for the common good of a project.

It makes sense for small things like golum, which would have been a pain in the ass to act out. They used it because they figured that if you have an animated character in a real world, it won't look as genuine as it would if the people acted it out, but then you need to do all the makeup and crap, which would be nearly impossible. That's why they used motion capture, it made if feel genuine without being a pain in the ass to make.
