Final projects

I just finished working a "group" project with my motion graphics class on a music video.

There are 14 kids in the group.
Most of the kids in the group are art majors. A few of them fall into the category of "BDIC/make your own major/I have little artistic ability"

The music video, without credits (yes, someone decided to put credits into the music video) is about 3:40, or, 220 seconds, and broken up into 6 shots (again, not including the credits).

One of the two directors animated about 40 seconds himself. Only about 8 others actually did their work (I wound up picking up 2 extra shots because of this, and I wound up making 80 seconds of this music video myself. If you do the math out, those 8 other people average out to 12.5 seconds of animation.

I was originally cast as just an animator, but I wound up coming up with the original concept, storyboards, effects, AND I had to be the technical lead for this because no one else knew how to render out anything or how to use the software (after effects, premiere and flash)

Moral of the story: never work in groups below your own skill level, or be prepared to do all of the work for everyone else.

the best part is that I can't show anything that I've worked on that appears in the music video (or even the name of the music video) until we get the rights to it. I CAN, however, show this off, which was done in after effects:

You'd be surprised at what can run on certain machines. My school's maya lab has computers that run processors that are 1 ghz or have 2 500 mhz processors, and I'm pretty sure the graphics cards are integrated into the mother board. Those computers can't even run internet explorer, much less Maya, yet, if you have the patience, you can make some really good stuff on it.

Your computer can run After Effects and Premiere, just don't expect it to be fast at all.

After Effects should really be renamed "How I learned to stop worrying and love the presets"
