first week at internship

today was the last day of my first 'week' at plexipixel studios . for those of you who don't know i was accepted as a paid intern at a local flash and 3d animation studio. their website is here. they have animators, web designers, coders, painters and graphic designers there that have worked on a ton of amazing stuff, most recently microsoft's World Wide Telescope, a program that lets you look at galaxies and star systems and crap like that. but they predominantly do games and animations which are all on their site.

i am working with blvd-square and we got put on a brand new flash animation project. we are animating a comic of a popular author who's name i am not allowed to reveal. it's a really strange and interesting style, definitely nothing i have done before. if all goes well we will have a finished cartoon or at least a cartoon ready for post production work done by the end of the summer. things would go faster if we worked monday through friday, but due to limits put on us by the school (we are only allowed to work 15 hours a week according to them but we work 24 anyway. we can only work 3 days out of the week though) it is going to be a little slower. still, the equipment there is great. top of the line machines and a wacom 21UX on a turntable so it's just like a lightboard. the studio is in a house-turned-office, so it's also a fun work environment. the employees are cool too, only about a dozen of them, probably a couple more than that. it's downtown so i have to take the bus there, that kind of sucks, but it's to save money and it means i can move around a lot downtown without having to pay $893745938475 for parking.
anyway yeah. whenever the cartoon gets done, it'll be great for my resume, portfolio, and i'll be able to show it to everyone of course. hopefully the comic artist will like it as well.

it has to be because it's the only form of mass transit for the entire metro area (light rail/monorail doesn't count since they only go 2 places), and you can get pretty much anywhere you want, but i'm just used to getting places faster since i don't have to make as many stops as a bus does.

mm just be glad you dont have to cram into a bus overflowing with stinky mexicans. ive had disgusting fat old hispanic women who basically sat on my lap because it was so fuckin overcrowded. ive had to stand up for two hours with a heavy backpack and laptop in a bus filled to twice its capacity while stuck in traffic. ive waited at a bus stop for an hour only to have the bus drive past without stopping, then when it stopped down the road to drop people off and i ran across a busy intersection to catch it, they closed the door in my fuckin face and drove away, causing me to miss the train.

also id say my absolute best LA bus story was this one time i was going to LAX. an old black man who had just picked up his toddler granddaughter from a surgery at ucla was talking with the girls mother on the phone. this other black dude, out of nowhere, was like "will you quit talking on the fuckin phone? you're annoying everyone on the fuckin bus with yo loud ass talking, you old fool. just shut the fuck up!"
soon this huge ass argument ensued where the poor old dude was like "im just picking up my daughter from surgery you insensitive asshole!" and the other guy was like "you're a fuckin weak old man, im a fuckin alpha male. people dont wanna hear me tell it like it is but i aint afraid of nobody!"
then a bunch of other people joined in. this asian chick was siding with the old man saying "the only one annoying everyone on the bus is YOU!" to which he replied "fuck you, no one cares what you think you fat chinese bitch!!" eventually the bus driver pulled over the bus and screamed at him to stop causing fights, and he got off. i asked her and she said he was a regular who would purposely pick fights with people on the bus everyday. lmao i almost wanna see him again, he was one entertaining nig!

cdm: most animation studios have information on their websites about internship programs. they are usually anywhere from 12-15 weeks long and most of them are unpaid. they also don't accept everyone, but it depends on the studio

Sounds awesome RTIL, killer job. I think that would be so neat, I hope things turn out well - and working with a friend must also be neat I'm sure you will get loads of experience working there. Being paid to animate what a sweet deal. Also all that fancy equipment and what not would be a dream to use
