ok so basically i got two traffic tickets in the span of a month, one i sort of deserved (speeding & unsafe lane change) and the other not really (parking ticket in a parking lane marked as a traffic violation). i asked for a hearing to explain the circumstances of the speeding one in hopes that i get it reduced, and i'm challenging the parking ticket to get it removed from my record completely. so i have to show up in court twice just to explain a parking ticket. but i read the letter and i can also contest it by mail. what i'm wondering is if it's even worth showing up to court and should i just write and mail in my letter of contest, or would it be more convincing to show up? if anyone's done this before i'd be glad to hear what you did . or anyone really.

SHADOWFOX2

If you ask me, showing up would be the better option, I mean anyone can write a letter saying "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DID THIS I AM SO MAD THIS IS RIDICULOUS please remove my tickets : D", but showing up shows them that you are serious about it, and they will be more likely to consider and remove them.

Besides, you want the best chance you have of getting those tickets removed, because you might need that clean record later on when you hit some lady pulling a U-turn to steal that last parking space...

PS: You didn't seem like a crazy driver, or one to drive at that. Guess you learn something new everyday huh?

Bring any small relative of yours, like a sister ( or a fake daughter) and hope the people around have sympathy.
thats what my dad did with me and my sister and the cop called off his case of speeding.

Arrive in person, and show and dress nice and get a haircut and everything.  Try to look like a respectable person who made an honest mistake and it'll be easier to get the verdict you're looking for.
Also, be polite to the judge.  Especially if they're old.
I'm awesome.

Draw them somethin...

I agree with Shadowfox. Writing back wont do a shit, or its less convincing. I remember i had 2 tickets for boarding train... without train tickets. One of them wasnt fair. I actually bought a season ticket the same day, but they still charged me because i had "an invalid ticket that needed stamping". I had a big WTF moment there and then, because all i was doing was waiting for my ticket to be stamped. I started arguing with them, and they raised the sum of the ticket. I tried writing to them later, but they wouldnt listen as "its none of our problems, and its your responsibility alone". Ever since then ive hated transit rides. FUCK EM.

But sometimes you gotta swallow your pride and just meet up at the court just to explain yourself over a damn ticket. Show the fools how right you are, their humble regrets will be priceless and enjoyable. Get it off your record.

ALWAYS show up in person for traffic violations. If the officer does not show up, your charges will be dropped.
