This question's been bugging me since I received my first peg bars and bought my own drawing disk

Which side do you use the peg bars on, top or bottom? My role models don't make the selection easier either; Chuck Jones (as well as all WB animators, from what I gather) animated on TOP pegs, while Disney animators are trained on BOTTOM pegs. I can't seem to get the whole rolling/flipping thing either, but that might be the paper I'm using.

I've tried both so far and I can't figure out which way I like better. Is there a modern standard for which side to animate on?

I don't know about a standard, but I always use top pegs. Bottom pegs to me is like putting the toilet paper on the roll facing outwards or people who stand up to wipe. Completely baffling.

I really find bottom pegs distracting and much harder to work with. Top with me all the way.
I was gone, FOR SO LONG

I prefer top to bottom personally. But I do admit to going bottom sometimes, it sorta feels as if you're not really in control but hey if thats what turns you on then be my guest.

btw im assuming that you gathered all of the information that you posted here from the animator's survival kit

Partially yes, but going through the book Nine Old Men (where I first noticed this), you'll see pictures of them (if I had the book, I'd give you a page number, but I think I remember seeing Ward Kimball working on bottom pegs). I was also JUST watching the Chuck Amuck documentary and he shows how to draw Bugs and Daffy and Pepe and he was working on top pegs.

I met a trained animator down at Disney doing character sketches, and he was working on bottom pegs. HOWEVER, at the drawing school at MGM DHS, they show you how to draw characters on top pegs.

My animation teacher said that she usually worked on bottom pegs with top pegs used for backgrounds, too, but she didn't really specify which way worked best.
