What are you watching this season [dead forum]?

AOTS contender tier:
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu - I dunno what to say about this series that hasn't been said. Probably White Fox's best show since Steins;Gate.
Shokugeki no Souma: Ni no Sara - It's Food Wars so you know what to expect, which is the best sports/fighting anime in recent memory, and foodgasms.
Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu LOVE! LOVE! - Season deux of the magical girl genre deconstruction Madoka never was.
ReLIFE - It's good you should watch it. The entire show was released simultaneously so it has marathon capability.
Katte ni Kaizou, Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan - Contender for best psychic show of the season, and definitely one of the best 5 min shows ever.
Mob Psycho 100 - It's called Mob Psycho 100 because that's how many times better it is than One Pump Chump. Art's way more interesting too.

Watching tier:
Fukigen na Mononokean - Poor man's Natsume Yuujinchou but still good.
Rewrite - Retarded supernatural elements but the character interactions and everything else are on par with Key's other good anime adaptations.
Orange - Ugly art and dumb story I dunno why I'm watching this tbh fam.
New Game - Not as good as Shirobako but still watchable.
Amaama to Inazuma - I appreciate how un-moe Amagakure made the daughter.
Handa-kun - Not as good as Barakamon probably but still decent.
Amanchu! - J.C. Staff's snorefest OTS. I dunno how I'll ever stay awake after Flying Bitch.
91 Days - It's no Bacanno/Gungrave/[insert mafia drama anime here].
Servamp - Holy fuck it's bad don't watch it. I'm only doing so to laugh about it with my gay pals. Reminds me of Unless aesthetically though so that's a plus.

Dropped/backlogged tier:
Everything else.

Spiritually dropped tier:
Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibougamine Gakuen - Mirai-hen/Zetsubou-hen - Fucking godawful Lerche/Seiji Kishi barbarism I hate it.

AOTD tier:
Berserk

Greatest single work in any visual medium of all time tier:
Bananya

Honestly I'd say if you don't like it by the second half of the first episode you probably won't enjoy the show overall, which is okay and probably more indicative of not, in fact, having shit taste.

This is pretty much the appeal. I also find it funny but I'm a degenerate so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

the running gag is kinda funny the first time but it's so predictable. like the exact same thing happens every arc. also i hate all the characters except Megumi and Miyoko and they're barely in it.

1A was so fuckin boring i put off 1B for a week

thankfully things actually started happening in 1B
[12:59 AM] elm: yea honestly if you dont want to cum on elmer fudds bald head whats wrong with you
[07:49.46] <+slack> cum erupts from the dick at an alarming rate
[07:49.59] <+slack> it will blast off and slap the wall at like 40 mph

rtil

the first episode probably didn't have to be 40+ minutes long

subaru is surprisingly calm for a dude who got teleported to an unknown place with an unknown language, no cellphone service or contact with his friends/family, constantly getting murdered, etc

although he's finally starting to break where i'm at

BluPhoenix

fully caught up on re:zero, the whole second half is really good so far, episodes 14-18 have been pretty emotionally draining

ep 15 straight-up felt like the bad ending in a jrpg

ep 18 is literally just a 22 minute conversation

and it was

actually really good

why is danger romps so bad i thought you loved it??? so conffuzled please explain bam (via pm if possible but i'm okay with conversing here... sorry.... trhat was out of line beat me more my maste.r...)

Danganronpa 3 is another Seiji Kishi clusterfuck any self respecting DR enthusiast should dismiss with the same expedition most Star Wars fans would do the expanded universe. It only exists to satiate the lowest common denominator's need for closure, and is proof beyond a doubt the Hope's Peak continuity should have ended with SDR2, or even DR1. Heck, Seiji Kishi's last trainwreck would have made a better DR prequel with only slight revisions (even though it was hilariously awful until the last three episodes).

Honestly everything that guy has directed was handled poorly with the possible exceptions of Jintai and his first two shows.

This is exactly how I felt watching One Joke Man. The difference for me is that I find sensory associations more interesting than fighting. SnS has decadent appeal but that's really my only defense.

rtil

dry humor and amazing animation are kind of my thing so i really enjoyed OPM. i find it funny how people who don't like it have to mention it every chance they can. i get it, it's an edgy opinion. and yes sns is appealing to degenerates and it's very good at it which i guess you can attribute to its success. the mangaka is probably one of those artists that fans just want to go back to making hentai doujin already, but it's far less lucrative.

Bamyasi

OPM was entertaining I'll concede. I wouldn't say I disliked it, but its flippant treatment of mass death kinda rubbed me the wrong way. "Edgy" perhaps but that's how OPM sorta struck me.

rtil

you say that as if OPM writes itself like zach snyder film

Bamyasi

Oh god, OPM is miles better/cleverer than that, but some of the destruction scenes/Saitama's cavalier attitude towards them strike a similarly tonedeaf cord as the Battle of Metropolis in MoS and make him a difficult character to like. I guess that's the joke though, with Genos being the ironically more human character and Saitama the comical overman.

I'm probably just oversensitive and/or contrarian. Definitely watching season 2 though. Tornado a best.

I also really hope the grand reveal of how he became so strong will be by
[spoiler]never masturbating.[/spoiler]
Probably unlikely though.

rtil

the critical difference to me is that audiences are supposed to laud superman as a god-hero as he is painted as one, but saitama is basically invisible and nobody respects him or rarely even acknowledges his existence except genos. i mean if you live in [insert letter here]-City your odds of dying/your district exploding are pretty high with or without saitama's existence. i guess it's kind of odd that in the first episode he saved a little girl from rubble yet probably indirectly killed tens of thousands of people later. it does kinda bug him when he gets yelled at by that crowd, and that might be the crux of it - he wanted to be a hero for fun but it's been not much more than a constant burden with responsibilities bigger than him.

that and superman films take themselves very seriously almost allegorically so. i never got that from OPM

This is the best summation of my problems with his character, which were really my only problems with the show. If he had some kind of inner consistency or desire to save as many people as possible, I might empathize better. There are certainly funny ways to kill scores of civilians and still have your character react humanely. That's really just the first episode though, but I never really got a clear picture of what Saitama wanted, aside from recognition.

Yeah, that was definitely my favorite scene in the show. I wish it'd had more like it, what with Saitama legitimately solving problems before they happen until the citizens become dependent on him and grow slothful, even summoning him to resolve interpersonal quarrels. MP100's structure is more akin to this hence my slight preference.

Very true. I guess the most notable thing OPM and SnS have in common is their being parodies. I can see how YMMV with the latter though.

rtil

i think all Saitama is interested in is what he dreamt about in the first episode with the mole men - the exhilaration of a real fight. like he said, having all the strength in the world is boring. he's already come to terms with the fact that he's never going to be looked up to as a typical hero and he feels empty inside. he can't fill that with accolades so the only other thing he knows is fighting.

Bamyasi

Well that's definitely better than having no motivation at all, but I still kinda wish he was humanized a bit more.

Thanks for the discourse/understandingness.

rtil

i guess it's kinda hard to humanize someone with impossible strength. at least he does regular human stuff sometimes. some of the OVA's are more down to earth, like the episode where his day is ruined because someone took his favorite french fry off his plate while he was in the bathroom.
