James Eagan Holmes. The man, the myth, the legend.

To give you the scoop, James Holmes is the (alleged) gunman responsible for the attack that occurred at a Dark Knight Rises screening in Aurora, Colorado, that claimed 12 lives and wounded over 60 others. What seemed like a normal night watching a Batman flick at a movie theater in an American suburban community turned into a bloody massacre. The gunman set off tear gas, and fired handguns and shotguns at people minutes after the movie began, ranging from 6 to 60. One person in an adjacent theater was hit by a bullet that tore through the wall.

Holmes is charged with multiple counts of first degree murder, attempted murder, and other charges relating to his plan of planting a booby trap in his apartment that was supposed to detonate when the cops would try and come inside.

He was apparently a brilliant neuroscience student and hailed from San Diego, and was known as a quiet kid who was smart and polite but unremarkable. He went to Colorado to get a masters degree in neuroscience but decided to plan a horrific crime instead. He stockpiled on weapons such as Glock pistols and shotguns, and loading up on tons of rounds and speed clippers. He fired into the crowd without a care in the world.

Many believe he is severely mentally ill, some think he's just a cowardly genius who wants all this attention, and some think other things. For the most part, we believe James Holmes shot up the theater, but we don't know if he's fully mentally responsible for the mass murder. The attacks required a lot of premeditation which may interfere with his insanity defense, and he may be guilty of all charges. He also could be found not guilty due to insanity and could be sent to a mental hospital.

He may get anything ranging from life without parole to the death penalty. Colorado has only executed one person since 1977 and only three others are sitting on death row in the state. Many victims' family and friends believe Holmes should be executed but Holmes' parents say his life should be spared because he is mentally ill.

Despite having a mental illness, he still premeditated an attack that left twelve innocent moviegoers dead, 70 others wounded from either gunfire or tear gas, and many families heartbroken and instilled a lot of fear of Americans and humans worldwide when going to the movies or other public places crowded with people.

Tomorrow is the start of his trial and of the 24 or so jury members, two have connections to the Columbine High School shooting in 1999, in which two students killed 12 students, a teacher, and themselves in nearby Littleton. A jury member said he was a friend of the shooters and knew a victim, and another was in the cafeteria when the shooting happened.

What will happen?

How can somebody be "so gay?"

You are either gay or you're not. There is no level or magnitude of gayness.

I care and possess an opinion about the justice system in the United States of America. While not deep or extreme I still have an opinion to make on certain matters pertaining to the justice system in this country. Read about the Sixth Amendment in the U.S. Constitution.
