Yeah another boring dream thread oh boy.

So every now and then when I'm on vacation and can sleep really late into the day, I'll have these really vivid nightmares that keep getting more colorful every time I go back to sleep, and are often exacerbated by paralysis and aural/visual/tactile hallucinations when I wake up. This occasionally happens at night, but those dreams I have an easier time repressing for some reason.

Remembering my absolute worst nightmare would take some digging through my diaries as I tend to forget them, but I just woke up from a pretty vibrant one I thought could break the ice.

So I was at this house we used to live at that has since been torn down (thankfully, it sucked). One of my neighbors whom I have not seen or talked to in years (who apparently had moved in after we left) was showing me these House of Leaves-esque passages she had found that would have been impossible with the architecture of the house, but in the dream they somehow made sense.

To cut to the chase, we ended up in a nonexistent attic watching this show that counted down the worst child abuse cases on record, but the narrator was doing so enthusiastically. It must have been halfway through the countdown that the show began detailing these especially strange cases where the parent suffered from "Tyrant complex" or "Tyrant syndrome." Anyway, the parents (typically mothers) would wake their children in the middle of the night wearing poorly stitched animal masks and begin screaming non-sequiturs like "Where is Bambi? Bambi is killing me!" until the children broke down crying, at which point the "tyrants" would begin to physically abuse them. As the narrator detailed one case in which the mother wore a rabbit mask and whose abuse mainly involved self-harm in front of her children, the channel became staticky, either due to censorship or poor signal quality.

When I woke up, the sheets felt distinctly like rabbit whiskers tickling my skin. It was terrible!

Okay your turn.

Edit: changed subject line to fit thread content (x2).

I don't really ever get nightmares (I'm most likely going to get eaten by demons in my sleep tonight now) but I do get some dreams that seem to lift me into a state between lucid and normal dreams that feel awful.
I know the world I'm in isn't real, everything's a bastardized knockoff of the real in these dreams; but I can't wake up and I feel like my very soul is juxtaposed between a respectable number of dimensions, and sometimes I wonder as I look at that odd disfigured child missing an arm but having an extra leg, or the house with just 4 more bricks on the facade than it needs, if I'll ever be able to go back.

My nightmares aren't really that interesting I just end up feeling trapped or paralyzed in some void with high pitched distorted noises and sometimes strange feelings like my heads going to explode or something.
Actually now that I think about it, I did have a recent small nightmare where I was seemingly being choked to death by an anime character. I won't get any more specific then that though.

I almost never dream and have not had a nightmare since i was a kid. But I do have some messed up dreams, but I gotta find my dream journal first. brb

I would like this.

I get those sometimes too. Most people just say "yeah but that's just lucid dreaming," but I'm talking about dreams within dreams that become lucid while the higher level dreams stay normal, like in the short story I am about to post.

I wanted to post this Thomas Ligotti piece because I feel it captures my own/others worst dreams better than I've seen anyone else do, and for that reason alone it is probably the single most horrifying piece of fiction I have ever read: Dream of a Manikin.

I suggest reading it while listening to this Brian Williams piece:

I remember having a freaky dream a really long time ago, maybe over 10 years ago now. I was up in the highest turret of a medieval castle in a desert, or something. Most of the dream was just me looking down at the lower towers and the walls of the castle and stuff, but there was this tiny bench outside the walls over in the distance. On this bench, there were two figures sitting there. The bench was facing away from me, as were the two figures. They were really far away so I couldn't see what they were, but I had a feeling they were not human. So I kept looking around at different parts of the castle, occasionally my gaze would go back to the bench but nothing would change. Then, suddenly when I was looking at the bench, one of the seated figures turned its head around nearly 180 degrees, and suddenly my vision zoomed in to an extreme close-up on its face, like a camera. It was like a white dummy head with black eyes and a black mouth. It screamed.

I also recall having a lot of freaky dreams where I'd be sitting in the back seat of a car and after riding around for a while, I'd suddenly look over the seat and notice nobody was driving.

I've also had recurring dreams where I'd find secret doors in buildings and places I've been to in real life that would open up to these huge chambers that would lead to other locations that I knew in real life. But in reality they'd be hundreds of miles apart. For some reason they always felt unsettling rather than exciting or adventurous, like I was somewhere that was forbidden.

One time I had a dream the Reverend BluPhoenix Esq. IV made an actual serious post on TBA instead of his usual jaded commentary/use of reaction images. It went something like this:

This is horrifying.

Also I've had dreams like the space compression ones you've had, but I don't remember any giant rooms. Could you describe them? Were they familiar to you at all? I'm impressed you remember the castle one after so long.

this was an actual dream i had though, it's pretty funny looking back on it

>sef walks up to my door
>i open the house door before he rings the doorbell. he stares at me, completely silent
>he holds a copy of battlefield 3 for the game gear (???) in his hands
>"you thinking what i'm thinking?"
>"yeah."
>we both say at the same time "let's get the weed."
>i dash into the bathroom, and i open the cistern of the toilet, pulling out a large ziploc bag filled with maple leaves
>i walk back into the living room with the bag, only to find sef is nowhere to be found. the room is tilted slightly at an angle. there are numerous plasma-screen tvs scattered across my walls and floor. in the center of the living room lies 20 copies of battlefield 3 and approximately 6 game gear devices. i scan the room for sef, despite the excess that i had unknowingly accumulated
>i whisper "....where did he gooooo...."

then i woke up

edit: adding this tune to the bulk of the thread since it's a thread about dreams

Ok that seriously freaked me out for a second, fuck you're good.

As for the giant rooms, no they were not familiar at all. One of them was like a very large, boundless room that had large rectangular pools of water and columns of pillars around them. Everything was made of marble or something. The ceiling wasn't particularity high for such a massive space, and there weren't any windows anywhere. There was just kind of like a dim lighting that seemed to be coming from the pools. It felt strangely calm and comforting but also mysterious and forbidden at the same time. Oh, and the way to get to this place first involved getting to some secret place deep inside of my grandparents house. Their house has a very particular feeling to it. It's a very large house but only has a main floor and a basement. It has somewhat of a more modern design to it, do it doesn't feel old and dusty. There's all kinds of ornate fixtures in the living room and Catholic iconography everywhere. There's like this dark, "negative-fireplace" that exists somewhere opposite of the regular fireplace that leads into the large chamber with the pillars and the pools. And then from there I can somehow get to a nice neighborhood street in my city that has a lot of nice old houses and trees along the street that form a "tunnel" with their branches arching over the street.

The town my grandparents live in is about 6 hours away from where I live.

My worst nightmare was:
During an informal family get-together in the street (people leaning on cars, sitting on the porch, kids chasing a ball, that junk), a bat-like monster flew in and landed on a car. Everyone ignored it and kept talking to each other. It produced a swaddled baby, and threw it at the ground; the baby bounced a few times, and I ran to pick it up. I started freaking out, and running to my family members asking them to help, but they continued talking. I finally turned to my mom, and crying, snot running down my nose, and the baby wailing, started tugging on her sleeve. My family formed a circle around me and as I begged each of them again, they started laughing.

I was like 13 when I had this dream. When I woke up, I cried for a long time, although even then I had no idea why I was crying. I still have no idea what the hell it was about!
It was pretty worth it though, because I haven't had a nightmare since.  B)

oh god i just remembered this one from 9 years ago..

i was trapped inside my middleschool building with all the windows and exit doors  replaced with brick walls. i was the only person inside but there was also this monster that had sort of a lion's body with claws instead of paws and it would chase me throughout the building. the really weird part was that it had the head of my social studies teacher at the time and it was trying to stab me with colored pencils.

i eventually woke up and tried not to think about it throughout the school day. when i got to social studies my teacher handed out quiz results for memorizing locations on a map the day before. so when i got mine back i got an F because i didn't write in colored pencils to color code bodies of water from countries despite naming everything perfectly.

SrsSam77

Sounds like you should've stabbed HIM with a colored pencil

This analyzes itself, not that I really subscribe to dream analysis, but seriously. Good thing you got that out of your system.

I've had stuff like this happen to me before. Most times I just get deja vu in the form of a vaguely remembered dream, though.

This thread makes me wish I had kooky/quirky dreams more often instead of the typical edgy shit I dream about.

Also did anyone read that short story I posted.

I can't really consider my dreams nightmares... but an experience.

There's this bunny hood guy that visits me in most of my dreams now a days, he'd slowly wave to me and tell me to follow him. If I do there's usually a surprise at the end, it's either a secret fear, a boss battle or a lonely stroll through a broken dimension...which then leads to a boss battle.

I still can't tell what this bunny wants from me.
