So I'm doing my first build sometime soon. And I honestly have no idea what I'm doing in regards to hardware. I want to buy everything on monday because savings. However school has been too much for me these past 2 weeks or so and I still never found the time to sit down and do much research. I have a kind of cookie cutter build, but I know some of you here are really into building rigs, so you can probably do better. Or maybe this one looks pretty okay? I don't know. Budget is ~$1500 (not including keyboard/monitors)

also yeah to reiterate, this is just from one of those generators that takes your budget and picks out 'modern' parts relative to it. I compared a few of them and yea this

everything looks pretty good, but iw ould invest in a better power supply, preferrably a corsair. those things can bring down your whole rig if they fail, so spring for the good stuff

almost any CM case will go a long way. they're always spacious and easy to get in to. and it will come in handy iin the future should you ever want to replace and upgrade parts. there's nothing worse than a tiny case that you'll cut your fingers on trying to get back in to later.

i don't know what everything there totals up to, but if you have extra room i'd upgrade to an i7.

although i have to ask, what is the most strenuous task you see this computer doing?

i would recommend a corsair PSU as well. i own the AX860i and it's been great. the modular models are the best.

just make sure if you buy one you read the instructions. you can short something easily if you use 3rd party cables.

So what I have listed there comes out just shy of 1500, but I'm sure I'll save enough purchasing on monday to upgrade a thing or two. Leftover funds go towards better monitors otherwise.

Most strenuous task will be running game engine stuff (as in the editor), probably unreal 4. Running editors is certainly more intense than running games built in it, but you probably know what.

i think the i5 will be fine for that. unless you plan on doing a lot of rendering, otherwise the upgrade won't do you all that much more good

you can pick up a partner-version 290x with a kickass cooler which would get the same perf, if not more (on some xfx overclocked models) for about 100 dollars less than that 970

My cousin spent like $3000 on his last one, but that was with monitors and all that.
