From my understanding, lamers weren't whining about the games themselves, but rather people who don't actually care about games subverting established norms in the name of spreading their SJ agenda (i.e. treating the symptom and not the cause), and people trying to "intellectualize" the medium by making primitive visual novels and art games, which then get undue praise by pseudo-intellectual journalists who also don't actually care about games.

yeah i get the cronyism part, but a lot of people are acting like this is the end of an era and the gaming industry is somehow dead as a result of all of this just because some noteworthy developers have decided to take a side. like nobody will make a game full of female tropes anymore because they'll be afraid of/taught a lesson by the twitter SJW bully brigade, and all games will now focus exclusively on appeasing their demands. the problem is that a majority of the gamers rallying behind the hashtag have absolutely zero understanding of how the industry works and why none of this bullshit matters. Kotaku and the gamer blog network has zero influence on the industry, Zoe Quinn is not a game developer, and social justice has no market value in games.
