The Legend of Korra - Book 2 Trailer
looks like the animation got even better. it looks like Tarlok is in this at points. also has Wan, the first Avatar ever, in what i'm assuming is the spirit world. get hype

Read the interview where they talked about Wan (lol wut) and they said that it's actually the human world 10,000 years ago. They said it would be inspired by ancient wood-block prints and watercolors, but I was blown away by how pretty it is. They pulled it off pretty well.

Also kind of surprising, it looks like Tenzin's kids will be tagging along for some of Korra's adventures. One of them even seems to have spirity powers. I just hope they quit with Meelo's fart bending, kinda cringe inducing.

Edit: All this time I've been wondering where Sokka and Suki's kids were (because you KNOW they had some) and I'm wondering if their kid isn't leader of the water tribe. Those twins at 1:54 could be his granddaughters.

And we still don't have anything on Zuko's daughter.

i'd also appreciate some updates on toph

The animation and art is definitely killer but the writing/dialogue got pretty stiff in some parts.
I can't really put it in to words but Korra's teen angst just seems so forced/cliche compared to the original cast, or at least it feels that way. She was kind of a bitch most of the episode. The adults, too, seem like they have their heads up their asses.

The twins are great though, funny how /co/ actually called it on one of them being a dude. Scientifically speaking, identical fraternal twins are incredibly unlikely if not impossible, so I didn't think it'd be true. Either Nick is ignoring that rule or I'm calling shenanigans. I wonder how far they're going to push this.

i feel like this will be elaborated in the story later on. for example, did you notice that korra found out that she was lied to about the reasons why she was locked up for so much of her life in training? this was at the festival dinner, when she asked her dad if the white lotus and aang decided it would be best for training to take place at the south pole after unalaq reveals to her that aang traveled all over the world during his training.

i think that korra's father and tenzin have been deliberately hiding something huge from her in order to protect her, and they may be forced to reveal it soon. already unalaq has thrown down his first hand, and it's pretty clear he has had this planned out all along. also, he is similar to amon in that he has some ability no one else seems to posses. this time it being able to convert these spirits to their 'light' form.

i also think that korra opening that portal probably did something really bad as well (besides start unalaq's plan)

That's pretty interesting actually. I forget, but did they ever cover how Aang actually died? I think they implied it was old age but that never made sense to me, even at 170-ish that'd still be pretty young for an avatar. And then there's the whole thing with Jinora. Yeah, somethings up.

Idk, everyone on /co/ is circlejerking over how they "predicted" Unalaq as being the villain. It's was way too obvious. I mean they kept thinking he was actually the one summoning the spirits and that opening the portal would unleash hell on earth or something, and it doesn't really feel that way to me. Here's what I think: Unalaq is really just a well-meaning but over zealous conservative. He's not evil or really "scheming" in the Tarlok/Amon sense. He genuinely thinks what he's doing is right, and in some ways he probably is. But the moral of the season is going to be that everything, even spirituality and conservative attitudes, have to be balanced. Korra's going to take the middle road and learn restraint/compassion or some bullshit while keeping her inner rebelliousness intact, then heal the bond between her dad and uncle and the physical/spirit world. There probably won't be any real "big bad" this season, just of a bunch of conflicted opinions that need compromise.

If I turn out to be wrong and Unalaq really has been manipulating the spirits from the beginning, I think I'd actually be upset. Not for being wrong, but because it's just stupid. They did the whole "sibling rivalry/sinister keikaku" thing last season. Regardless, I think I'm siding with /co/ on the premiere: everything about it was enjoyable except for the main character, which is kind of sad.

no they did not really cover aang's death at all. they just said he died young because he used up too much of his energy, or something. but if you look at past avatars, there were some very old looking avatars. aang did not look that old when he died. or at least the last time we saw him. and the statue of him looks quite young as well. perhaps he went through something rather traumatic that advanced his death.

i thought from the trailers it was pretty obvious that unalaq was up to something, but i do agree that to some extent he believes that he has good intentions or at least believes he is doing the right thing. amon and tarlok thought that way, too. they were just more blunt about it.

and yea, korra was being a total bitch. obviously she is going to be needing tenzin and her father again soon, and she'll probably be regretting the stupid choice she made by right about the beginning of the next episode.

I hope we see more of a non rebellious korra much like the one in the trailer where the lady is asking who she is. It'd be refreshing to see her a little more level headed, because her bitchy attitude is getting in the way of anything developing.

The only avatar that I can think that does not look old in reincarnations is Kyoshi, but she's known as the oldest living avatar to date. so maybe when avatars are reincarnated, they take the forms of their most prime self?

just a thought
Roku was pretty old looking. The Aang statue might just be how he or his family wanted him to be remembered, and in that sense Roku and Kyoshi too might prefer being remembered the way we see them
Well I meant that he's clearly a misguided noble archetype like Amon and Tarlok, but I just think it'd be really poor writing for them to reveal that he actively sabotaged his brother in the past and is now doing it to manipulate Korra. How many water tribe brother vs. brother scooby-doo villain trickery plots are we going to do in this series?

all we can do is hope we are wrong and that there's more to it. it would also make his brother look like a total idiot for never figuring it out after all these years.
it's hard to say where this series is going, but i will say that this pilot didn't feel strong to me. i am a fan of the series, but nothing held my interest in any of this, i honestly found myself becoming bored and phasing out during it. i don't really like the shots, and the writing so far has been pretty bad.

as a serious goddamn weaboo, i expected i'd really like the fact that the animation is now being handled by studio pierrot (currently home of some of my favorite contemporary japanese animators), but outside of the action scenes having way prettier fx animation and more dynamic anime-looking action, i honestly don't really feel like the animation has improved. during dialogue and non-action scenes, everything feels way more stiff and jerky, i find the poses aren't interesting and the animation isn't fluid. it's common for anime to bump up the quality during the really good scenes, but i feel like the drop in overall quality is pretty noticeable, and i don't find myself enjoying the well animated scenes as much anyway because i think the layout in the scenes is really confusing. (it's worth noting that book 2 is now directed by someone named "Colin Heck", a completely different director) I love pierrot to pieces and maybe the visuals are bound to get a little more viewer-friendly, but i feel like for the budget difference they're paying to outsource to japan as opposed to south korea, that money could be getting used for something more constructive, like paying for better writing or something.

as of writing this i'm really tired and havent seen anyone elses opinions on this, but i figured i'd drop this here. i kind of hope my opinion will change later but we shall see

They got fucking motorboats in this show, that's all I'm saying. 100 fucking years ago, a majority of the people in the world were living in small dirt villages and shitting in potholes.

rtil

i'd wager a majority of the world is still doing something to the equivalent of that

I'm late to the thread but whatever.

Although I can't think of anything to say of substance besides I enjoyed the premier.

I'm excited to see what everything else besides republic city will look like.

interesting new episode.
hearing that aang wasn't exactly the perfect father makes me want to know more. i wonder if we'll get some flashback.s and korra's family life not so perfect either. makes everything more relatable.

somehow i feel like unalaq is just going to end up a red herring. that or he really believes he's doing the right thing and is just misguided. but he doesn't seem..evil enough to be the villain. even though they try to make him look evil, like on his dark throne in the shadows.
also bolin is fucking hilarious. him and sokka would've gotten along so well.
