The story begins in the distant future in the far reaches of the galaxy. The Human Galactic Alliance has been constantly fighting for its survival against a grotesque race of beings called "Hidiaazu." During an intense battle, the young lieutenant Redo and his humanoid mobile weapon Chamber are swallowed up into a distortion of time and space. Waking from his artificially induced hibernation, Redo realizes that he has arrived on Earth, the planet on the lost frontier. On this planet that was completely flooded by the seas, people live in fleets of giant ships, salvaging relics from the seas' depths in order to survive. Redo arrives on one of the fleets called Gargantia. With no knowledge of the planet's history or culture, he is forced to live alongside Amy, a 15-year-old girl who serves as a messenger aboard the Gargantia fleet. To Redo, who has lived a life where he knows nothing but fighting, these days of peace continue to surprise him.

is anyone else watching this anime? i highly recommend it. so far it's turning out to be a great story. excellent animation, stunning backgrounds, great character designs. i have this feeling that it is going to turn out very sad though.

Having read the wiki synopsis and watched the first 5 finutes, my immediate assumption is that the humans of Avalon are going to try and reclaim Earth and kill all the "primitives" living there, and our heroes will be caught in the middle. This kid has been serving in the military from birth and only gets 4 weeks of freedom? What?

from what i understood he pretty much lived in his robot for most of his life. he has no idea what it's like to be a part of society

this is plausible , but there are also two other possibilities i think. first is [spoiler]Ledo has to choose between going back to GA or staying on Gargantia[/spoiler] or [spoiler]Ledo unwittingly brings the attention of life on Earth to the conflict in space between GA and the aliens or w/e, and gets them mixed up in it[/spoiler]

i could be totally wrong though. i also don't think we've seen the last of [spoiler]lobster lesbian pirate trio[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Yep, my guess is that the GA will find out where he is, come back to get him and/or retake Earth, and Ledo with will side with Earth instead of them.... and then probably get killed or something and save the day[/spoiler]
