skullgirls is now available for pre-order on steam. pre-ordering opts you in to the beta. game goes live august 22nd.

RichChap

my brothers got this game the other day for our PS3 its pretty great! i'm not really a fighting game guy but the art/animation/music etc keeps me somewhat interested and its fun to play game with my brothers here and there even though all im really doing is mashing buttons.

lasse

any discount for  your backalleybuddies?

rtil

um i am just an animator on it, they don't give me keys or coupons to hand out. sorry!

i don't think $15 is a lot to ask for, though. especially considering the beta opt-in was $30 originally, as well as pledges. buying it on steam now is a better deal.

lasse

alright ill probably get it eventually anway

i can't wait until squigly's out, i'll be able to play her story (she's my favorite character so i'm interested in it) and also finally see my name in the credits

i was watching the most recent mega64 podcast the other day and they had some girl on named muriel who said she was one of the animators on skullgirls and that she was working on big band, and i was all hey wow maybe she knows rtil but also skullgirls has so many animators holy shit. i can't believe how many people they need to animate just one character.

rtil

her name is mariel cartwright aka kinuko, and she is the lead animator on the project. she is the one who predominantly sends out assignments to people, and she also does most of the key poses.

sev

mariel's really talented and nice. it's pretty awesome how she manages to get that much work done for SG and also corresponds with 20+ animation contractors and answers everyone's questions and stuff. i know she does work with wayforward and on cryamore too, kinda blows me away that she can do so much

RichChap

oh cool so you guys do actually know her. thats really cool, i was wondering how they got all of the characters to look the same style and have so much consistency with so many different animators, but I guess when you have a talented person organizing everything, making character sheets/doing key poses it will all come together nicely. also wow that's really impressive that she is able to organize all of those animators around one project.

i need to get this quickly before i go to uni and end up with no money

that's part of it, but the other thing is that alex ahad designed every single character (bar some npc's hanging out in the background in future maps), so everything in this universe is done in his style.

They're giving out "Buddy Codes" for friends of people who backed the campaign. With these codes you'll be able to play until the game comes out on the 22nd. I don't know if it's first-come-first-serve, or if they work for anyone who puts them in, but here:

how is that even possible on a keyboard?

Flash

holy shit... right, then right+down, then down, then down+left, etc etc... sounds almost impossible. i'd just try sliding my nails flat across the arrow keys.
