best of 2012

another year goes by.. and while sonic the hedgehog might be fucking dead, we are all still here. what did you think was the best of 2012? i'll hit it off with some of my favorite stuff.

best movie: i'm going to have to go with arrietty, with wreck-it ralph as a close 2nd. i didn't see very many movies this year so i don't have much to go off of.

best album: definitely Visions by Grimes. i saw Grimes live this year with Myths and Elite Gymnastics, and she was better live than she is on record - something you don't hear very often.  if you like synth/dreampop and you haven't heard Grimes, you definitely should

best tv show: tough choice but i'm picking gumball with gravity falls as a strong 2nd. gumball's season 2 had some of my favorite tv animation i've ever seen, and i like the graphical updates they did from season 1, which also has some all time favorite episodes for me as well. but i know gravity falls will have a lot to offer next year too.

best game: i didn't play too many new games this year.. but there's no doubt that Katawa Shoujo had a huge impact on me and i did so much fanart for it this year, and met a lot of great people cuz of it, some of which i am now working on a visual novel with. so how could i not say KS? i'll never forget it ^_^

best movie: looper- this is one i wasn't expecting to be nearly as good as it was, a compelling sci-fi tale about time travel, pulls it off beautifully. not gonna say much to avoid spoilers, GO SEE THIS MOVIE
honorable mentions: skyfall and lincoln

best album: i....really....don't....know. i can't think much of good albums i've listend to in 2012 and w-OH uh yeah um synthetica by metric.
honorable mention: born to die by lana del rey

best tv show/anime: gonna break the rules here since i just watched it these both this year and they've not only broken the ice with me, but melted the whole damn sheet they stood on- WORKING!! AND DURARARA!!, MOTHERFUCKER.
runner-up: Ore no imouto

best game: played a lot of good ones this year, it's pretty hard to pick so i'll give some games that stand out in their genres

best adventure game: walking dead
best "strategy" game: dota 2
best shooter played this year: battlefield 3
best survival/horror: day z
best fighter: persona 4 arena
best sports game but really fucking needs to rework its' passing game and ai: madden 13
best game i still want: farcry 3

best overall online experience: battlefield 3 w/rtil,sev,thor
runnerup: league of legends w/ sinitron,crabs,ash

Chronicle - I'm sure lots of people disagree with me here but whatever, I really enjoyed it, more than Avengers etc. Close follow up would be the Hunger Games, cause I really liked that one, too.

Best movie I SAW in 2012:
The Invention of Lying. Such a great premise for a movie, very well executed. I liked it a lot!

best album:
I don't really care about albums and music. I get music - whether it's new or old - listen to it and that's all. I probably listen to music more often than most people here, but that doesn't mean that I give a poop about it.

best tv show:
Dexter's newest Season.. as well as Breaking Bad's newest season's first half. Those two shows are amazing, 'nuff said.
EDIT: Also "Community". What a fucking great show.

best game:
Far Cry 3, X-Com: Enemy Unknown, Katawa Shoujo, The Darkness II, Orcs Must Die! 2, FTL (Faster Than Light), Scribblenauts: Unlimited.

Even with all of those games in mind, I would still say Little Inferno. I know that it looks like an incredibly simple and stupid game - and it is - but yet it kept me busy for 5 hours (which rarely any game manages to do) with content, so fun and different, that I played it through even a second time the day after. Such a unique and fun game.
