The first time I read about Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, I thought it was going to be a Boredoms offshoot. I was pleasantly surprised, even though Boredoms is probably my favorite Noise-rock band (speaking of which, did anyone (rtil) listen to the new Melt-Banana album?)

Also I guess this would be runner-up (and totally not because these were the only two Shoegaze albums I listened to this year).

Related to Gilthwixt's post, I like a lot of the 8/16-bit inspired chiptunes, but I'm hoping stuff like this catches on more:

yes, and i liked it. it's not my favorite melt-banana album but i liked it. i'm also very sad that i missed them when they were here in october. whenever they re-did their website i stopped getting their newsletters and missed the memo on their US tour this year. one of the very few bands i'd ever consider seeing live. but i'm sure they'll be back here someday. they tour a lot.
