Grimes - Genesis

this is a weird song to have stuck in your head

Gilthwixt

It's funny you posted that, because I had this one stuck in my head all day yesterday and came to post it.

Grimes - Oblivion

rtil

grimes is so good live, in fact she is better live than she is on record which i can't say about many artists

Bamyasi

In honor of Daft Punk winning it big at the Grannies and me being a snob, I will now proceed to post Disco-influenced albums from the last 15 years that are better than RAM. H-here I go!

First off:
Luomo - Synkro (Vocalcity 2000)
More house than disco really, but it does have a smashed glitter ball on the cover, and that pretty much sums up the album, as well as my feelings toward RAM. Vocalcity was composed entirely on a computer, so it doesn't sound "warm" or whatever RAM was marketed as being. Also unlike RAM, it doesn't have a bad track, but I guess that's not saying much, as there are only 6 stretched across the entire CD. Even so, not one of them feels too long. They're all like digital tantric sex.

Fight me nerds.

that won't be very hard! personally i thought RAM was mediocre. only a few solid tracks, couple of very bad ones, too.

still curious to hear WAC's thoughts on why he thinks it's the best album of all time

Bamyasi

Yeah I agree. Not every song was a complete wash. Fragments of Time for instance, but then they follow that up with something like Doing It Right which is pretty much a suicide anthem. Noah Lennox turns every track he's featured on to shit. His contribution to Black Noise being a case in point.

Next:
Swayzak - Floyd
Most of the other tracks sound more disco-tinged, but none of them are on gaytube for some reason. Other early "microhouse" records I'd suggest are Around the House, Rest, Lido Hotel, Bodily Functions, Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records, After Love, Visions of Blah and Textstar. Those don't belong on this list by any stretch, and this one's already a stretch.

More to come. Woop woop.

Genesis - Dance on a Volcano

As a bit of a diversion from the disco house discussion, enjoy some early Genesis (featuring Phil Collins on vocals before he became a massive prick). I guess you'd say this was progressive rock but there are some serious operatic themes in some of the other songs in the album (A Trick of the Tail) but I though I'd just post this as it's probably my favourite.

Others of note include 'Robbery, assault and battery' and 'Entangled', go check out Genesis!

Bamyasi

I've only heard their stuff with Peter Gabriel so I'll check that one out.

Next few should be pretty obvious:
The Avalanches - Electricity
A Recipe for Disaster, Endtroducing, Songs of a Dead Dreamer, Soulful Fruit, Anti-Theft Device, Man or Myth, Live at Future Primitive Sound Session, My Vinyl Weighs a Ton, File Under Futurism, The Dreamer, Heavy Beats, Brainfreeze, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Kaleidoscope, Monostereosis, Decentertainment, The Anomaly, Now Listen, Gonervill, Product Placement, Front End Lifter, Deadringer, Some of My Best Friends Are DJ's, Herbal Blend, Demolition Pumpkin Squeeze Music, You Are Beautiful at All Times, and Donuts are all other good plunderphonics/turntablist records. Or at least all the ones I have in my library. I hardly remember listening to any of them except SILY, which is why it's the best.

Minamina Goodsong - Buttersauce

i keep forgetting that super milk chan exists

Bamyasi

I wish I could forget Super Milk Chan exists.

Next one's pretty obvious (yes I'm still doing this):
Daft Punk - Face To Face
Why is Discovery better than RAM? Many reasons, not chief among them being that it had its own anime co-directed by Leiji Matsumoto. It also came with a membership card that granted online access to exclusive content which is totally rad. Less importantly, it was also more innovative than RAM as a disco throwback, as well as catchier throughout. Even 13 years after being released, it still doesn't sound dated, because it's self-consciously cheesy. Unlike say RAM which sounded dated upon release, or Homework which doesn't hold up quite as well. There's also Human After All but I think it's better to just forget that one ever existed.

i did not like Human After All until i saw Daft Punk on their Alive tour. Human After All worked a lot better in that format, and while it doesn't really change the listening experience of the original album I certainly appreciate it a lot more today than i did when it first came out. and being surrounded by thousands of people watching two robots dance on a giant cyberpunk pyramid turning dials and knobs definitely helped, too.

Bamyasi

Yeah Alive 2007 was much better than HMU (even without the concert performance, which I can only imagine) so that's not surprising.

Next:
Jus 1 Kiss - Basement Jaxx
Basement Jaxx albums are famous for having awful album art, but that doesn't detract from how great the content is. As far as House popularizers/Rock crossover bands go, I'd argue them being (at their best) just as good as Daft Punk musically. Can't say as much for their branding. Remedy is my favorite of their CDs, but Kish Kash was pretty good too (even though it had a few too many guest appearances, much like RAM). Their output quality and frequency has been on steady decline since that one, though.

The Avalanches - Electricity

btw this made me download the album

it's pretty amazing, so thanks for that

Bamyasi

Glad you enjoyed it yo.

Next:
MRI - Tied To The 80s
Last Force Tracks album I promise. In there heyday MRI was the most popular microhouse production duo around. Now literally no one listens to them. Other good microhouse albums from this period are My Way, Leave Luck to Heaven, The Absence of Blight, Blip Blurp Bleep, Alcachofa, Do You Party, and Kangmei. Their first CD is good too. I could go on about microhouse all day because my obsession with it borders on autistic. The early 2000's were a great time for music because it was before web 2.0 really took off. Since then, Youtube and Tumblr and whatnot have caused most bands/producers to try to emulate old styles in really uninteresting ways in the name of nostalgia and immediate, shallow retro appeal (here's looking at you, synthpop revival).

SHADOWFOX2

^ that DP drum loop though
I should definitely swing by this thread more often, I was just looking for more good music
Bam is on a streak
I think I'm starting to like the microhouse genre, but I feel like it, as with many other genres I don't listen to as much, are situational.
I'm working on that though

Quote from: spiteI'm going to trick the top professional NBA basketball players to touch a magic basketball that absorbs all of their talent; Then combine their talent with mine own and destroy the world by reverse slam dunking over Micheal Jordan from half-court.
Quote from: Mad MeatUnlike before, when I`m ejaculating, there aren`t any ``sperm`` coming out anymore, and I am wondering if it is a bad thing? will it be permanent? or in the worst case, do anybody know what I should do?
then again, sorry for that question

Bamyasi

Yeah Shads I'm having my own Grammy award show in honor of Daft Punk winning AOTY. Also I think I know what you mean by situational. Club music obviously makes the most sense inside a club.

Next:
Metro Area - Strut
Speaking of nostalgia. Not really much to say about this one. It's a modern classic. The perfect balance of kitsch and class.

Necronomitr0n

so i recently picked up the album WLFGRL by Machine Girl and fuck i forgot how much i used to love jungle/DnB

Machine Girl - Ginger Claps
<+fawx> im trying to animate a dick coming out of a toaster how do i go on about doing this
