But in all serious though, the idea itself was never fully explored. The former Soviet empire could've used it's name as a form of populist rhetoric as long as they wanted, but it didn't really change anything. From the 1920's onward, it was just another U.S, especially near the 70's and 80's when there were McDonalds being built in Moscow years before the fall of the wall. The idea itself isn't supposed to support totalitarian regimes nor bureaucracy as most people like to compare it with. The autonomous city of Marinaleda is communist and functions more of a democracy than the rest of Spain does. An ideology of a 'workers democracy' obviously can't work when the said workers have no actual say. The people of Kronstadt wanted a say on how to work in their own soviets with their own conditions and all they got were bullets.

The same can be said for any other system. No one is going to give you land and freedom, as long as you have an idea worth defending, no matter what it is, someone has to fight for it whether metaphorically or literally. Without ideas there wouldn't be change and instead we would just keep repeating history for when we wouldn't have to. We human beings may never be perfect, but at least we're not completely helpless like we tend to believe. Mistakes are made, experiences are learned. Where there's a place we haven't explored, "there be dragons".

I'm not a communist or anything myself, I'm just not so quick to dismiss anything that hasn't completed it's hypothesis, it itself hasn't been around very long. Even if socialism in general was a failed concept, at least it was a failed concept with good intentions, rather than all the successful ideas with bad ones.

i guess my point is that the entire basis on which communism is founded can't be successfully implemented on any level and remain true to its principles because of how societies develop. it's not so much a matter of not being capable of learning new things, but rather throwing away thousands of years of understanding on societal structure and human nature to even have a chance to prove that a true communistic society could not only develop but also thrive without collapsing in on itself.

even scientifical socialism (marx/engels) could be considered somewhat utopic in today's society, and it's actually a theory that tries really hard to not be dreamy and starry-eyed
so communism, being an extreme form of socialism (being that it can only be progressed to after socialism is achieved) is naturally VERY far-fetched
