bread club full length album

this deserves a new topic

so my band has been hard at work recording a full length album. it's 13 songs, with 3 of them being lifted from the previous EP and redone. i think you'll all notice a stark difference in quality between this and the EP, with notably better production and better performances all around, as well as more mature songwriting.

even if you hated our EP, i urge you to listen to this because it's way better.

i didnt hate your ep but i think this album has the same problems as the ep. the instruments come off as dreamy and soft with the reverb and bright sounds, but then the vocals are flat and contrast with the music in a bad way. and no offense but a lot of times you are off key and hit wrong notes. i think you'd be doing yourself a lot of favors to give the same quality of sound to your voice that you give to the instruments.

yo really? come on.

this is way better than the EP and that got tons of comments. i posted this here because you guys for the most part aren't punkers so your reaction to my band's music gives me a greater insight to what most people will probably critique about the album. last time, it was the production and the vocals. i'm curious to see what people tink. thank you rtil for your input, but i always want more than just one person if that's at all possible.

please? it's like a 30 minute album, not a very time-consuming listen. and if you just want to listen to the most popular songs, you can just listen to teh punx i no, metallicat, day, just in case i forget, ballad of yee, and silent treatment.

well first i'd like to correct that i don't sing off key on the album at all, though there may be a few parts where i sing slightly off pitch. to me, that's not a big deal, because most if not all bands in a genre similar to mine share that characteristic. hell, kurt cobain was off pitch on a lot of recordings, just very slightly, and he is a widely respected vocalist. in this kind of music, it's very important for it to be "honest" and "real", so there is almost no editing done to the vocals except for some double tracking and reverb.

as far as making the vocals as dreamy as the guitars, i like the contrast, but i could see how it would be cool for them to be more effected. the other vocalist/guitarist in the band did not want us to do any effects on the vocals at all, not even double tracking or reverb, so the fact that i even got that was pretty lucky imo. however, he also didn't want our second guitarist to use so many effects. i think if he could have had it his way we would have been a lot more raw.

to clarify, singing off key is hitting notes that are not in the key you're playing in. singing off pitch usually implies that you're hitting notes in the same key, just not totally dead on. that's actually really common in a lot of bands that don't use extensive pitch editing on the vocals. thom yorke from radiohead goes flat from time to time in recordings, but a more obvious example is tim kinsella from capn jazz. he is flat in every song they do

i dunno, i don't consider it a big deal because for the most part i'm on pitch, and even when i'm slightly off it's not by a lot. i certainly don't think it's unlistenable in that regard or anything

ok.. off key, off pitch, it just didnt sound right sometimes. you don't have to try and justify it because we know less about music than you and cuz kurt cobain did it, either way it just didn't sound right to my ears from time to time. i mean you can't possibly think that you have no room for improvement as a singer. not saying you're a bad singer but you could get better.

Opinions as I listen:
Sparky Plays The Blues is absolutely great, wish it was longer.
Metallicat is ni~i~ice. Reminds me of Tokyo Police Club.
Day is good, but the "I think I could love you" is comical. I'm not against screaming in music, but it's odd.
~~Ditto Ghost of Jeff Wilson. Too desperate for me.~~ Okay, I like how the shouts trail off. Really really love the guitar.
Just In Case I Forget is fucking lovely.
For some reason the sudden burst of shouting in Hershel's Song, before the Japanese/Korean?, makes the rest of it alright. Good job doing whatever you did for that to happen. The vocals after were jarring, however.
Peebs Is Unimpressed reminds me of Boards of Canada.
Untitled is just great.

I'm really not hearing the tune problem, but I don't know anything about music and may be a little deaf.

TL;DR: Downloaded.

definitely, i am not a great singer, and i'm always trying to improve, i'm just confused by that specific criticism i guess. i'm not saying that i idolize kurt cobain or anything either. i think it not sounding right to your ears makes more sense, which isn't to say that what you're saying is wrong, it's just that i don't really hear it myself, and the only other person who has said something similar is my dad. could be a number of factors that make it sound odd, off, or wrong to you, but i don't think there are any points where i'm singing totally off key.

thanks man! sparky plays the blues is a joke track, supposed to be cheesy and light hearted, but i'm glad you still enjoyed it. a lot of people seem to like metallicat the most. i wrote the song "day" except for the other vocalist's lyrics, vocals, and some of his guitar lines. i'm glad you liked the song for the most part, while i do like his part, i wish the "love you" thing was a bit more intense, but nobody's perfect. i like the skramZ on ghost of jeff wilson too. i also wrote just in case i forget and untitled. if you liked just in case i forget, i'm surprised you didn't have anything to say about silent treatment or ahnvolope, the other two instrumental tracks on the album (at least the ones that are actual songs). thanks for the track by track review thing
