I wasn't defending incest either. It's just that stigmatizing something like incest or molestation can have a negative impact on the party that wasn't aware of the taboo (i.e. children, the ones society claims it wants to protect most). I know only the molesting party is deliberately ostracized, but I wish there was some way we could discuss things like molestation in a way that doesn't make the victims feel contaminated or "touched". Probably the best way to start would be to stop sensationalizing it in the media, but that would be a good start for a lot problems (see: mass shootings, hate crimes, terrorism, etc). Yeah I know there's a huge "ick" factor involved (I personally have siblings of the opposite sex and the thought appalls me), but I also think calling something like that "gross" is insensitive. I guess that's what I should have said in the first place instead of trying to be funny.

well i wasn't attempting to be insensitive to victims. it's true that the anonymous chatter was a victim themselves as a child, but now they are abusing their niece, anon is no better than their father. i would never call a victim gross for being molested or raped.

I know you weren't trying to be insensitive to victims. Unfortunately most children can't tell apart a stigma attached to something that happened to them and a stigma attached to themselves. I'd imagine it's even harder when the child lives in a society that treats victims of molestation with hysterical, alienating difference. I'm not any kind of apologist but you can see how that kind of treatment can be just as traumatic and damaging as the act itself. It's also extremely common and really bothers me which is why I'm being nitpicky towards your fairly innocuous reaction. Hopefully the current gen can find a better way of treating these children without making them feel like plague victims.
