it is, but like 4chan there are boards that are good and boards that are bad. problem is, all the default subreddits are shit, so the front page looks like shit. when you make an account, you can unsubscribe to all of them. my reddit front page is full of picture subreddits, a couple game subreddits, and stuff about science and history. it's like an entirely different site really

i've often wondered why there's an almost-equivalent amount of upvotes and downvotes for everything that's posted on reddit with very rare occurrences of extremes. i'm pretty sure it has to do with a certain amount of people getting jealous about the amount of karma others have

even though karma doesn't mean anything in the first place, at least you mostly got downvotes/dislikes for the right reasons on youtube

karma-whores hurt me physically. like with sinitron posting his warhammer figurines with the confederate flag on them, he got downvoted plenty and karmawhores came to the rescue, whiteknighting black people with antiracist overtones like

Quote from:  SeannyJChange your avatar, we don't care kindly to intolerance here.

it's fucking hilarious what people will be willing to do to get karma
[12:59 AM] elm: yea honestly if you dont want to cum on elmer fudds bald head whats wrong with you
[07:49.46] <+slack> cum erupts from the dick at an alarming rate
[07:49.59] <+slack> it will blast off and slap the wall at like 40 mph

reddit has some sort of anti-spam system that automatically adds downvotes to popular submissions and also purposely fudges numbers to trick bots, but i'm not sure how much influence it has on everything. but generally if you want to be upvoted you can just upload reposts of hilarious jokes about how women belong in the kitchen to make your bacon sandwiches while you play skyrim every few months and they'll make it to the top every time. and there are people who actually do keep a backlog of popular reposts and submit them on a schedule for karma.

I don't even want to look at this either

everyday it becomes more and more aware to me that Reddit is nothing more than a breeding ground for basement dwelling fascism

rtil

eh, that's a bit of an overexaggeration. a typical redditor, if i had to take a guess, would be the following: single, male, young adult, militant atheist (but only online), misogynistic, overweight, avid gamer, liberal-leaning, and loves a good overused meme. fascist? hardly. a mostly harmless profile of the spoiled american guy browsing the internet? probably a lot more accurate. really, reddit is what you make it.

a good way to look at it is if reddit was the internet, and subreddits were different websites. there are websites whose ideals you do not align with, so you don't go to them. you go to sites that interest you and have like-minded people. some are bigger than others, some smaller. they co-exist but they do not have to interact. and, much like the internet, reddit is largely ungoverned, and the moderators of subreddits can administrate however they please. so you get a lot of fucked up shit. in the big picture, reddit is no worse - or better - than the internet.

Dear Gentlemen, The whisperer in the dark has it that this forum of high-standard discussion is an excellent place for educated opinions on nimble matters. I have arrived at this facility to ask for your consult.

The case is as follows; at a recent convention (centered on animations of asiatic origins) I have acquainted a fair maiden. We have engaged in constant communication by means of digital telegraph for the past week, and this day we went for a strol through my nation's oldest city center. The lovely maiden flattered my by stating she would like to gain further knowledge on my inner workings before engaging in further relations, but alas and alack, she also brought to my attention that she posessed a strong love for another gentleman, who's name was never mentioned. If her feelings were to be replied, she would hesitate, but the odds are on his side.

I come here with the following question; ought I to prove my virtue and worth as a man (in this scenario, I consider recording a Magnetic Fields song on ukelele or guitar, and sending this over per digital telegraph), or ought I to not engage into a woman who posesses such an intimate desire for another man?
