i think i would *almost* sympathize with him if he hadnt expressed that opinion THE DAY OF the fucking shooting. i feel like the story and the people involved with it may in the near future be extorted by the media in various ways in order to get a lot of ratings, as is common practice by a lot of media outlets. in several months you'll probably still have stories running that focus mainly on unimportant details or speculations, wringing out all of the possible ratings that they can out of the story, accomplishing nothing but reminding those involved of the tragedy.

but the thing is that this is relevant current news, i do care about the death of innocent people, and i think most other people do too. that guy probably does as well, i think he's just being really cynical for attention. or, maybe he doesn't know how to express his negative view of the media as separate from a negative view of all empathetic reaction.

im not sure why i'm standing up for this guy, i think on some level he reminds me of myself when i was 16.

There was this somewhat infamous social justice blog where the owner of the blog made a post about how they basically had to drive somewhere after drinking and I think the story was supposed to make the reader feel bad for her or something, but sure enough people sent her asks and messages saying "why the fuck were you driving a car under the influence you could've killed somebody."

Her response was that "some people don't even have cars so don't assume everyone has car privileges" to defend her drunk driving.
