Knights of Cydonia was good, but that was like 8 years ago.
It seems like the wubstep cancer got to them

from wiki on 'the 2nd law'

"According to the band in a track-by-track description of the album in NME, the album incorporates elements of symphonic rock, dubstep and synth pop."

my band is an incredibly original rock group that plays symphonies wow!

trent bortknob

their "symphonic" shit is their worst stuff. it's nowhere near the compositional level of a real symphony, matt's just super full of himself. their best stuff is their down to earth rock tunes. a band like queen has the instrumental prowess and compositional know-how to actually make "symphonic rock", and they weren't even half as pretentious.

Flash

a lot of bands are guilty of this type of stuff (by which I mean those throwaway string section licks designed to make the song sound really deep and epic)

praise be to skrillex

speaking of muse I guess, after reading this thread, i wasnt surprised how awfully they performed last night at the olympics closing ceremony. They were finally getting some good music flowing and then they came on and completely ruined the positive feeling that was going. all the athletes were just standing there like 'um what'

sevv: btw dude you dropped your wacky-colored paste-on nose here i'll give it back to you

trent bortknob

i didnt hear a single good musical performance at the closing ceremony and muse is no exception

i thought they were decent

but you're right, it would have made more sense for muse to perform somewhere in the middle of the ceremony, but i think they wanted the 'climax' to be at the end. also- it's muse, i don't think you could expect anything lighthearted from them ever

i hope by that you mean you can't expect them to do something that isn't trying in vain to be "epic". i mean, to an extent bombastic epics are cool, i mean i love the mars volta and their first 3 albums consist of pretty much entirely "big" songs, in length and in structure. but muse hardly does anything legitimately "heavy", it's mainly like "i read 1984 by george orwell and here are one hundred songs about it!!!!!"

no what i'm saying is that the overall tone of everything muse does has never been "light" and that's it

QuoteA particularly upset tweeter made the following comment: "Did they not know that Muse did the OFFICIAL SONG OF THE LONDON 2012 GAMES? UGH. #NBCFail." Another wrote, "Shame on you NBC for skipping Muse. Shame shame on you. #nbcfail."
they sure showed them
