To be honest, I'm not even the type of gamer who plays for the gore.
TF2 has a pretty heavily censored German version. The blood is yellow and when a character is blown up, he bursts into rubber ducks, springs, gears and other random stuff and I honestly like this kind of censorship because it's well executed and professionally done. Even the left4dead version is pretty decent. There's a little less blood and zombies fade immediately after being killed but I honestly don't mind it.
The thing with Half Life and Counter Strike is just that the censorship is so badly executed and to a major part simply ridiculous and unnecessary. Of course the game is still "playable" but I just don't like being restricted by a couple of absurd laws and paying the same price as anyone else for a badly manipulated version of a piece of art because that's essentially what it is.
