dude who cares? animal collective is hella good, and not just pitchfork says that. most music reviewers say that, and that's because they're a good band.

i even have a friend who admitted she liked an animal collective song but wouldn't listen to any more because "it's hipster music"

yeah that's where i think the real problem is. there is nothing wrong with liking any music, it's when you're putting a limit on what you can and can't like/going out of your way to like or dislike something, all in order to uphold or maintain a certain reputation or self-image, that you're going too far. that's just being dishonest, and it doesn't do any good for anyone.

but seriously you guys really shouldn't feel bad about, for example, liking an egoraptor cartoon or finding 4chan shit funny. lots of people like that shit. i've laughed at a few things egoraptor has done, i don't care that he's considered a huge loser around this group of people for whatever reason (probably because he makes a lot of cartoons referencing pop culture). i am certainly not a fan, i don't keep up with anything he does and haven't watched something he's done in years, but if you like him you shouldn't feel bad about it.

i don't go to 4chan, and i don't usually find the memes there funny. however, i have found some funny in the past, and usually felt bad about it before. but i really think it was dumb of me to make such a big deal about that kind of stuff before.

while we're on the subject, i also like egoraptor. i like some things he makes much more than other things he makes, but i think overall he's pretty funny/entertaining and i like some of his viewpoints on gamedev.

and we don't talk these days as much as we used to, but from everything i've seen out of him in the time i've known him, he's a decent guy. i remember back when i was like 14 or something he used to live in the town my dad lived in, so i hung out with him a few times. even though i was basically just some socially awkward kid who messaged him every once in a while, he was really cool to me, and the few times we hung out he picked me up, drove me back and pretty much paid for everything. so i always had respect for him and looked up to him like i have with other friends that were much older, more personable and better at shit i wanted to do than me, but still talked to me all these years like rtil, lenko, red, etc. i'd probably be just as socially awkward as i used to be if i hadn't met any of these people.

his fans are pretty ridiculous and obnoxious, but i've come to accept that the majority of people who identify themselves as parts of a "fanbase" of anything are generally retarded. (see: bronies) needless to say people can definitely change for the worse (especially when fame/popularity is involved) and we don't talk enough for me to say i know him really well these days, but to me he acts like the same guy he did a few years ago so as a person he's alright with me.

i'm not saying this to argue or whiteknight, but i did want to give my two cents on the dude since i've been hearing about him a lot over the last couple of weeks and this topic seemed like the most fitting place to put it

but i don't enjoy garbage. i don't even remember what the last egoraptor thing i saw was, and i don't find everything he does funny or anything, i just remember not hating him/maybe laughing a few times at something he made. he may be a "loser" in a social context, but that's not really any of my business. i don't anything about the guy.

also, ego's stuff isnt utter garbage. he has great sense of comedic timing and draws funny drawings and good animation in his more recent stuff. you can tell hes starting to care more about his craft than he used to
while some of his cartoons heavily rely on his formula (screaming, video game injokes) to the point where the cartoon becomes cringeworthy (early awesome series), others tickle my funnybone because of the fast-paced slapstick madness and funny observations (girl-chan and others). hes getting better and i like it
