Ron Paul Catching Newt Gingrich in Iowa

Even some really hardcore liberals are thinking about voting for Ron Paul. Honestly, if the election turned into Ron Paul vs. Obama, I have no fucking idea who I would vote for. Obama has been a mediocre at best president (very generous statement) and he certainly wouldn't get much better in a second term. Ron Paul terrifies me on a lot of economic issues but god... If that internet censorship bill passes and Obama signs it, there would be a much larger chance of me voting for Ron Paul in the general election.

that's a pretty bold statement for someone who doesn't live in the united states.

yes, some of our civil liberties are being challenged lately, but we hardly live in anything close to a fascist state.

even if the senate and house were completely corrupt, they still don't trump executive orders and the president's veto power. the senate and the house is also at the mercy of the voters every 2-4 years.

there definitely needs to be a lot of reform to fix our congress. we need term limits, campaign finance reform, make party registration optional and get lobbyists out of the business of influencing law and politicians. but ultimately, congressmen and women still have to serve their constituents - their comfy jobs depend on it. voters just need to be more educated and pay attention to the facts. they need to stop voting back in 80% of congress every election cycle if they really want change. and they need to make their voices heard - which actually has been influencing a lot of house bills lately, and for the better.

in a fascist state, the people wouldn't have a voice. but we still have the right to organize, demonstrate, speak and protest, and we still have the power to completely wipe the slate of the house, the senate and the oval office as voters.

Here's part of the problem. In my district, Lois Capps never has any real competition from Democrats at all and the Republicans who go against her are even worse than her. Not to mention her seat is beyond safe. Scenarios like this are everywhere. What the hell can I really do about it?

i can't believe a lot of states still require you to register with a party. in washington you can vote for whoever the hell you want, no party registration required
