so with the forum being a little slow lately and me currently being very interested in this i thought i'd make a thread.

i'm sure most people have heard about nintendo's huge slash on the 3DS's price tag to mark it down from $249.99 to an actually reasonable $169.99 it makes it a lot more tempting buy for me. although the only games released on the console right now i'm interested in are the zelda and doa: dimensions, the console looks to have a really great set of games to come out in the future.

with games like doctor lautrec, starfox 64 and zelda: four swords (free) slated for september and shin megami tensei: devil survivor overclocked coming out in august i'm not very worried about having to wait a long period of time for good games to come out.

the 3ds may not be a perfect console but i played my ds this year more than my 360 and ps3 combined. i'm now more than willing to completely be done with those consoles and invest my money into something i'd enjoy more. i love portable gaming, but am not interested in the psp vita.

I honestly think it's very appealing already. Particularly because of the eShop and how they even have GBA games, etc. Yeah of course the actual 3DS games are lacking good titles, but in due time we know there will be lots. Also if you already own one (from before the price cut) you get a bunch of free games. Nintendo is obviously trying to make something happen with this, and I honestly hope it works. I'd get one myself, but I'm going to have to wait for a bit until I have some more spending money.

However, one of my main reasons for excitement was Megaman Legends 3, but they fucking cancelled it

i'm going to let myself be a little irresponsible for once with my money. this relates to my one and only concern with the 3ds. i am very interested in a ton of the japanese 3ds titles that are announced to be coming out, especially the professor layton x phoenix wright with no plans so far to come to north america. but nintendo region locks their consoles. even though my knowledge of japanese is pretty minimal, i am seriously considering importing a second 3ds as well. although this may seem to be a waste of money to some, i am a collector when it comes to things like that. i would not think twice about this though if i thought i was going to be spending my money on anything else.

i'll admit that i probably would've bought a 3ds for solely this game. however i do think there may be a chance, and the only reason i say that is because of this. i have signed pretty much every petition, and i didn't really think it would do anything. that blog entry gives me a little hope, and i'd like to see fans make a difference here and really show crapcom they want it.

i tested the 3ds at a gamestop nearby and i'm actually very disappointed in the 3D stuff. I thought it'd look good but it only looks nice when your head is like perfectly centered and there's a very precise distance between your eyes and the screen.

kinda annoying but oh well, i would get one if i had the money.

i heard the nintendo ceo took a huge paycut in order to do this price drop. pretty noble of him and shows that he cares about the product... or that he's extremely disappointed in sales and will do anything to get them off shelves.

i haven't had a handheld since the gameboy color, and i'm not really into consoles anymore, so i wouldn't ever buy one. but i'd be curious to try it, although i've heard the 3d is nothing short of a headache for most people. i'm actually a little surprised nintendo jumped onto the 3d bandwagon, i think most consumers find it a gimmick and don't actually like it.

Nintendo totally fucked up with the 3DS's launch. A year ago, this system seemed like it had the potential to have one of the best gaming libraries of any Nintendo console since perhaps the SNES. After all, it looked like it was going to have strong third part support and a lot of really interesting games coming out. Five months after launch, only truly great games the system has are ports of older games and the two third party games I was looking forward to the most are cancelled. :/ This major price cut and the fact Nintendo is trying their best to fix their fuckups is reviving my interest in the handheld but goddamn, this system could have done so much better in the beginning.

50% pay cut. He pretty much admits massive fuck ups were made and I commend him for trying to fix this mess before it's too late. Honestly, I think this is completely necessary. With the Vita launching this Fall at $250 and $1 apps being really popular, there was a huge chance they could not recover from a bad launch if drastic measures weren't taken and have a hard as hell time gaining their thrown back despite being the handheld kings since the original Gameboy.

i really have no interest in the 3d at all. i borrowed my friend's 3ds for about a week and really enjoyed it, but really don't care for gimmicks like that. i know there are a ton of 3ds users who feel the same way about it, too. i personally didn't really think it was even a good choice to add the 3d, considering it makes it really hard to sell to kids under 7 years old, which kills a lot of the market that they had for the dsi/ds lite.

i myself never had a problem with it, but anyone else looking at it while i was playing couldn't see it.

the only cancelled ones that i know of are:

Megaman Legends 3
Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy
Saints Row: Drive-by
My Garden
DJ Hero
Bomberman

the only ones that i was interested in were megaman and probably bomberman. the only big kick in the pants is megaman legends 3, which i mostly blame capcom for.

i completely agree. the ds started out bad, but not as bad as this. i think it can recover given the potential of the console.

Honestly, I don't see the Vita as really being a competitor for the 3DS all that much. The target audiences are too different. I mean, sure there will be people who want both, but I feel like the vita is marketed towards actual gamers, while with the 3DS (like all nintendo consoles pretty much) they tried to market it to everyone.

Well I guess we'll find out if I'm right or not in the fall

most of my favorite gba games that exist were remakes and back when i owned one i didnt care much for buying new games because whenever i did i was dissapointed

and this is fairly silly but something tells me if i had a 3ds id do the same thing. rarely ever do i see a trailer or ad about a game that i would buy, so i just go for the remakes

The 3ds seemed cool at first when I heard about (wow 3d and no glasses) but it never came out being something innovative for gameplay ...it's just a gimmick so far. I'm actually more excited for the PSP2 (PS Vita) system since it will have near-nextgen graphics, a back touch pad control, sixaxis motion tilt, a touch screen HD hi-def, 3G and wifi, and can play regular games as well as apps and ps network games...so it's a real powerhouse portable imo and I can load up my animations and music to it as well (which is cool for me since I lack anything like an iphone and my current old psp acts as my mp3 player).

the 3D effect is an eyesore and hurts

i went and bought it at costco for $170, so i get it cheap and get the 20 games. i also got zelda and dead or alive. so far it's lived up to my expectations, but i'd still recommend that people wait until more games are out, unless they want those 20 games like i did. doa is really fun and zelda is what it was 10 years ago.

the 3d isn't what's worth buying it for at all, so it kind of bothers me that nintendo would use something like that as a selling point, which is also probably why they've done so poorly in marketing it.

what i think is really cool about it is all the extra crap it has comparatively to the old ds's. there's actually a pretty good selection of games in the eshop already and tons more to come out. there's really tons of other cool things but it'd take awhile to list them all.

it's a gadget that's gonna get a lot better with time, and a lot of people underestimate it and aren't really aware of all the things it can do. i've been playing it pretty much non-stop and having a lot of fun with it, but i know, like everything else, it'll get old unless it gets more content to it.

overall though, i love it, and don't really have a lot of complaints other than lack of games.

i wish i had a ds lite to be honest, i used to have one and i had a bunch of gameboy advance games for it. then i sold it along with the gba games and now i have a dsi and it's okayyyy. i think since i got both for free i am going to take that as a sign that i never need to spend money on a new one. even if this one breaks or gets lost or something. i have snes.

It had a bad launch but so did the old DS.

The old DS only had 1 decent game when it came out. Meteos. Then it took months for it to get that "kirby is a ball and you make him run over enemies like a tire" game.

The 3ds will get good shit. But until that happens, I won't bother. As for the 3d effect, it's definitely a gimmick. But at least its a pretty gimmick. I dicked around in the ocarina of time remake the other night. Very VERY pretty.
