10:00-11:00 Comic-Con Film School 101: Preproduction and Screenwriting—  Comic-Con Film School is back for another four-day, nuts-and-bolts course on how to make a movie for very little money, using available video technology and desktop postproduction software. Whether you're shooting your first Kung-fu short or that story about the leather-clad girl who pilots an assault mech, this course will take you from script to final product so that you too can submit your own movie into the CCI: IFF in the coming years. This first class covers the specifics of preproduction on the cheap, including screenwriting, casting, scheduling, location scouting, crewing-up, and getting equipment for nothing. The instructors will even raffle off some sweet DVDs! Featuring rare images, this talk spotlights such gekiga giants as Yoshihiro Tatsumi, Yoshiharu Tsuge, and Masahiko Matsumoto, as well as modern alt-manga from Ax creators such as Imiri Sakabashira, Kazuichi Hanawa, Akino Kondo, Yusaku Hanakuma, and Takashi Nemoto. 2:00-3:30 Animation on a Shoe String—  Learn the down and dirty tricks on how to create your own animation studio on a low budget, from the author of Animation on a Shoe String. 12:00-2:00 CBLDF Master Session: Jill Thompson: Secrets of Watercolor Technique—  Bring your sketchbooks and learn the secrets of expressive watercolor from one of the medium's top practitioners! Renowned for her work on Beasts of Burden, Scary Godmother, and Sandman, Jill Thompson  shows you the intricacies of the watercolor medium and how to apply it to making masterful comics and covers. 2:00-3:00 Spotlight on Stan Lee—  Comics legend and Comic-Con special guest Stan Lee  discusses some of his latest projects at POW! Entertainment and the future of comics and new media distribution, including challenges today's writers and artists face. Join Stan and company, including Gill Champion (COO POW! 2:00-3:00 Animal Anatomy for Artists: How Drawing Masters Invent Creatures—  Marshall Vandruff shows how masters have been trained in the knowledge of animal anatomy for the past 500 years. Leonardo da Vinci, Heinrich Kley, Albrecht Durer, Frank Frazetta, Winsor McCay, and many others were able to draw horses, lions, bears, and other beasts from imagination because they knew basic anatomy and form. Marshall will explain the process and recommend resources to help artists master animal anatomy so that they can invent creatures. Room 30CDE  

2:30-3:30 The 24-Hour Comics Day Challenge—  Can you create a full 24-page comic from scratch in 24 hours? Join us at the panel as Ryan Claytor (Elephant Eater Comics) and Trevor Mersch give out tips and tricks to help you complete the challenge this year and have your comic included in the international 24-Hour Comics collection. The Pixar Story process uses the same focus and much more. 8:00-10:00 World Premiere: Batman: Under the Red Hood—  Warner Home Video, Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Animation proudly present the World Premiere of Batman: Under the Red Hood, the eighth entry in the ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original PG-13 movies. In the film, Batman faces his ultimate challenge as the mysterious Red Hood takes Gotham City by firestorm. One part vigilante, one part criminal kingpin, Red Hood begins cleaning up Gotham with the efficiency of Batman, but without following the same ethical code. Killing is an option. And when The Joker falls in the balance between the two, hard truths are revealed and old wounds are reopened. The writers of some of the top animated features will talk about the process of creating those films, their interactions with the artists and the studios, and how they came to be involved with their project.
