all this movie needed was the wilhelm scream and someone to utter "ITS GONNA BE A BUMPY RIDE" to run the whole cliche gauntlet.

best realistic cgi ever
really lovely creatures and eviroments
good action scenes
GREAT cast and voices

AND A ROBOT KNIFE FIGHT. best part of the film was that. a robot mech wielding a fucking huge knife.

i thought the movie and was really good in every way even if the plot was cliche. It was told well and had good pacing. The whole movie was CG and I thought it was pretty easy to tell that it was all CG. Everyone still looks plastic.

i've gotta say the worst part of the movie is the title card at the end

Just came back from the movie and I gotta say it was 100% a movie

Saw it today in 3D, and overall I liked it a lot. Yeah, I totally thought "Ferngully" in the back of my mind heh....especially with the giant tree and some plot elements. AND I knew he was going to ride that one creature at some point in the movie. Still, I admit I was thoroughly entertained and walked out satisfied to have watched it.

so cliche and overdone. the vfx were amazing but it's nothing we haven't seen before. it's every trick WETA can pull off rolled into one stupid blue alien movie. this isn't james cameron's vision, it's a group of talented 3d and fx artists doing the best they can do with a bloated budget for hollywood tripe. it was a total cheeseball, poorly acted cowboys vs. indians b-movie with the most stereotyped, easily identified characters i've ever seen. and maybe that plays to its strengths - that it can entertain and dazzle your average audience. i really did not like it and i am still amazed at the responses to it, especially all the people who were determined to hate it and walked out satisfied. really - you'll be watching this film again in a year and wondering why you thought it was so great. it was built for theaters and nothing more.

i also hate the way the film treats its audience like idiots. the in-your-face plot with a message more obvious than m. night's last piece of shit "the happening", and offbeat narration to explain every fucking thing. oh and nice job calling the mineral on the planet 'unobtainium', ha ha i get it unobtainable jesus christ could you come up with anything more stupid. also ripping off ferngully/flame decal dragon

effects were great but

1. was too long

2. characters sucked

3. had blue people

really poorly spent $500 mil, there's no need to spend that much on a movie right now. the experience was not really worth that.

it was better than i thought it was going to be though.

I saw it in 3D and was very impressed by the visual effects.  But I could not stop laughing whenever any of the characters opened their goddamn mouths because everything they said was either unnecessary to say so fucking cliched that I couldn't NOT laugh.  So basically I was laughing loudly at inappropriate times in the movie and the rest of the audience had their serious faces on for this VISIONARY WORK OF ART.  All in all my impression was that it was Pocahontas in Space.

it was entertaining in parts and looked great technically but i hated the art design for the most part, especially the navi. IMO if there was one way for cameron to actually make this memorable or iconic it would have been good, varied designs for those guys. instead we get these horrible, lanky, blue cat people

everything else was just a big ball of 'seen it all before'. dragonball evolution probably had better lines at some points

i just dont get why so much time and effort was put into creating a story so predictable with characters so weak and overdone . the sole potential that it did have, in the concept of having avatars, was executed predictably and boringly

also holy shit weaver's avatar was creepy as fuck

sadly yeah.
if you can get over the sheer amount of DUMB striking your face repeatedly, the movie is very pretty and has some really badass monster and animal designs that probably should have been the focus of the film.
