Just wanted to bump this thread to say that I managed to recover all my files after like 3 weeks. Not a single file is corrupted, what a relief

Very lucky you!
I had corruptions everytime I tried to recover files.
It was horrible...

did you just dump the contents of the HD or run an actual recovery program? i've never known someone to successfully retrieve files through a recovery utility

I'm surprised how intact everything is, I downloaded that PC Inspector program for this and it found everything lickety-split. The only annoyance is that to actually find files, you have to search code words and file types since it doesn't actually show where everything is :/

My friend actually sent me a recovery program that I used to get back a portion of things.
Luckily for me I'm not old enough to have really important documents yet, and I had my class stuff backed up.

i'm not sure how being old correlates to the amount of important documents you have, but either way that's interesting news. all my experiences or friend's experiences with recovery software has been abysmal. i usually just recommend turning a fricked OS drive into storage and buying a new HD and re-installing. usually cheaper than any recovery option. that is, unless something's wrong with the entire drive, in which case you probably couldn't do much on your own

i called compaq support, talked to some guy in india, and my phone died while he was trying to help me. he actually called me back the next day just to help me try and recover all my files that got deleted when my computer crashed. i used pandora recovery anddd i didn't get alot of stuff back :/ about 8 gigs out of like 200 lmao. I got some of my music back though!!! most of the pictures that were recovered are all like, small and fucked up.

im trying to see if theres some 'undeleted' files on this laptop

theres 30 gig taken up on the C drive that i cant find at all. hmm

I have one big problem though... I can't remove any of the hidden files, all I can do is copy and paste them into my external hard drive. Oh well, better than nothing
