Emergency Alert System

My first EAS experience was a quite a shocker for me. It was 10:16PM on January 20th, 2001. I was lounging in my bed reading the 88th issue of Tips and Tricks while watching the Chuck Jones Show on Cartoon Network. I heard a loud ass blare come from the TV. I quickly directed my attention to the TV to see that some crawl text was traveling across the top of the screen. If memory serves, the text read: "YOUR LOCAL TV STATION IS CONDUCTING A MONTHLY TEST IN: PORTLAND, OR; BEAVERTON, OR; ALOHA, OR" etc etc. To make matters even worse, I was looking at a gory ad for Blood Omen 2 in my magazine when the 1050Hz sine wave tone started. The EAS also tested an hour later, during a Chuck E. Cheese commercial.

Would anybody like to share their first experience of the EAS and how it impacted their life?

Today the power went out in my small city and there was a huge torando alarm that went off and like 2 wrecks outside how cool when my internet comes back i see this and im like hey look at that
